yes, one word per box. Yes all है हैं हां is am are will be single words and will be counted as separate.

See... firstly have faith in yourself. People say that 'structure रट' kar jao...no teacher will help in essay because several others mug up these things.
Also Upsc knows that you have rote learned the structure so philosophy essays burst those structures. Essay demands your original ideas, not your teachers original ideas. To create your perspective do read philosophy...people will say nahi yeah mat padho..but brother do read about plato Aristotle...essay needs us to write some kind of flowery language with some lucid thoughts. No teacher can teach you that.
Also read stories, fiction, non fiction,etc. but not for the sake of essay. In this way you can learn about anecdotes.

Don't live in regret... because what you did was the best choice...looking back and thinking ki " ki aisa karta toh aisa hota" is not the right thing because what you chose was right, given in that situation and moment.

But when you see people like Rafael Nadal at age of 35, playing like a Vikings against a 10 year younger sportsperson, losing the first 2 sets and then coming back to win the next 3, You can't do anything but think. How have you guys interpreted "The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world."? Motherhood and nurturing the child or women empowerment in general?
I wrote on this topic. It was like role of parents, teachers, colleagues, joint family, doctors. Also I wrote how they rule (chanakya-chandragupta) (Aristotle-alexander). I also wrote how the rule shouldn't be (like nepotism, favouritism).
I added that in 1947, the nation was in a cradle and constituent assembly nurtured it through several acts.
The underline was that the person as a whole remains in a safety net of the society and shall give back to it in a proper way.🙂
If I am not wrong "The hand that rocks the cradle" was an essay topic in some previous paper as well.. I don't remember the year..

I do Not think that it is essentially on women only. Because in the 2005 essay paper, one question was also of women empowerment explicitly. How come they give 2 essays on one topic. Yes I know that poem of the very same name..but yet. Also this classification was done by the author of this book.
Once upon a time, In UPSC CSE..an essay on 'engenderisation of development' came. Now engenderisation has 2 different meanings. Shashi Tharoor tweeted on that and The exam controller came with a clarification that all the interpretations willbe taken.
People making such authoritative and definitive statements about marking/methodology here! Where do you get all this confidence from? :PTrue!! World of upsc is post modern ,there is no absolute truth, we should act rather more prudently while presenting our opinions. newer aspirants might wrongly interpret these ideas to be the absolute.

I m getting a lot of negative feelings these days that I might have underperformed in the mains exam..
Whenever I read any topic now I am instantly reminded that I could have used these points in so and so answer..
I m getting more and more underconfident with each passing day...
Does anyone else also face such issues..

Before optional exam, I thought of putting names of philosophers in my answers. A person told me 'zyada naam likhne sey marks nahi miltey'
In the exam, I wrote the names of philosophers. I was feeling happy.
Next day, I told that person that I didn't write any names (🙂), he told me that I should have written some names na..marks kaise milenge he said. I told him that I did write names.
He felt flabbergasted and asked did I write the names of their books. I said some books. He said bhai Books ka naam aur year of publication bhi likhna hota hai....he was trying to make me feel bad for no reason.
Hence, the feeling you get just after the exam should be the one you should carry around, atleast in Mains

Unrelated but there is a way to large difference between IIT (Adv) and UPSC-CSE in terms of unpredictability.
In Advanced, some candidates are too sure of getting under 10 AIR and they get it. When I was in 12th, there used to be a prodigy kid in class 9th. That kid used to solve Irodov and JD Lee very easily. Yesterday I was reminiscing my school days, Googled his name and Whoa ! he did IIT-D (CS) and is now in London.
In CSE, the AIR-1 also wishes to "just get in the list".
Height of Confidence
The 2012 Topper of IIT Jee was Arpit Aggarwal. He was from our school. 1 week prior to exam, he and the 2009 topper (Nitin Jain, he too was from our school) visited our classroom to give us some tips. I asked Arpit how come he is so sure of topping the exam. He smiled and said that no one else is scoring as much as me from the answer keys.
On the result date, he started to wait for the chairman's call and the call of congratulations did come in the early morning.
What if UPSC too declares Mains marks prior to interview...

Mains should be conducted for those who could not attempt it due to covid..Declaring results before that is not justified..

agar firse mains karenge toh exam ki credibility gir jayegi. Upsc is perhaps the sole institution having some kind of (maybe imagined) credibility.

Once there was a candidate who was sure of getting U-10 in Upsc. He started his preparation with that slogan only. He landed with Rank-15. You have every right to expect the best.

Unrelated to the marks discussion, but just read the case of Aashima Goyal (CSE-2019). It was because of wrong usage of EWS certificate that she was denied the service. I personally know A LOT of candidates, who are otherwise serving in the grade pay of 5400 (approx monthly gross income 80K-100k), who are claiming such EWS quotas. They say that they are on probationary period and hence this and that. One person I know got into the top-3 service in EWS category but did not join because he feared that later on he may be caught. The other person I know comes from an affulent family and was earning 75,000 pm in 2016 and resigned in 2020, still claimed EWS.
Now the point is, the candidates shall be asked to submit EWS certificate prior to Mains, to expedite and weed out the non eligible students. These RICH people and eating away the benefits of the intended beneficiaries.

They'll get better cars, accommodation and other perks.
They'll be learning the job from you and other underlings not just during training but their entire careers and still won't learn the job. They'll trash your work for not using Bureaucratic English. They'll be sort of managing your day to day work.
Every year you'll have to do Gandhigiri to not get transferred to far flung areas. You'll be forced to do dubious things on command of higher ups. But if you're bent and have no morals this is just a great job and will make you rich.
No such thing in Assistant professor jobs. You may even get the top post one day. People tend to look for jobs where they may reach the top.
Asst Professor means no transfers! Set for life. Lots of free time, and if you're really interested in your subject, many opportunities for research and travel, Plus automatic "Respect" in society. They usually (should) leave it only for IAS/IPS home cadre or IFS.
Are you seriously comparing the respect a Dy SP or SDM gets to whatever an Assistant Professor gets.
Even your father's cousin's friend's son will brag about his father's friend's cousin's son is Dy SP or SDM. These people can get things done. They also lend people money because they generally have surplus cash. Assistant professors are always asking to borrow money. Even their children don't think much of them. That's the ugly truth.
But quality of life and work environment is still a lot better in assistant professor
Haha bro... reality is very different. Dy Collector in Bihar seems like a very prestigious post, but when you get into the services, AIS officers will have superiority over you. I know a person who got into Ssc cgl, got one promotion, went to become Dc inBihar , came back to rejoin in centre
Writing on women related role for 12 pages is just one dimenstion only in essay of "hand that rock the cradle". Also, it is very tough to get the exact meaning of the essay (pointingly the role of mother), as father do also play a huge role in buying and fixing the cradle. Anudeep Sir too scored low in essays in some attempts but he stated the lack of dimensions in those essays.
I have till now not found a single person who wrote on that essay only on mother or women.
If sample size of 4-5 optional subjects are comparable (means 1000,1200,1300,1100 candidates), the respective toppers shall have similar marks with least variation, and the resultant gradation shall be there. If Psir topper gets 300, then History topper shall also have 300+-2. Even if the papers are different,yet it shall be assumed that both the toppers had done equal labour

Just checked the model solutions of 2021 CSM from Forum and Samjhao. I think that by reading the model answers, if your memory says that you have written 60-70% similar to them, it is a very good attempt, similarly if you find 50-60% of your answer in it, it is a good attempt and so on.
Yourgutfeeling is the key here. How did you feel exactly after leaving the exam hall, and the feeling you have after checking your answers with model answers.
A burning question for Humanities optional candidates..especially for Socio, PSIR and history ones....Did you write optional answer in paragraphs or in GS type methodology of points. I am confused till nowPSIR optional. Wrote everything in paragraph- all 10,15, 20 markers.

If everything in this country gets politicised by doing hunger strikes..than i think it will harm serious candidates much. It happens in state pcs exams, that some छात्र netas (who were candidates in the bygone era) protest at everything. There is one Kaushal 'Sir' who berates the Uppcs each time an English medium candidate gets selected.
There will always remain some party which has been aggrieved or trying to play the victim card. If all voices be heard than there will be no justice, because everyone has got some story.
If Mains 2022 be organised from 22 Feb, some candidates may say that they got ditched on 21st Feb (breakup day), and are in no mood/mental state to write the paper...they may say that breakup hurts more than Covid and there are also no vaccines to mend it.
