[Results] Prelims 2020 Over - Gearing for 2021

Because of the corona virus issue? If it does not happen then worst affected will be people whose interview is stuck, around 600-700 such people I think are yet to appear for their interview.

@neyawn sir and others, what is your take?

This is the official Thread for discussion of Prelims Postponement, Please do not create new threads for the same.

Better to be objective and rational rather than blind and emotional.

Noone loves uncertainty. That's why some people choose blind 'No', others blind 'Yes'.

Leave corona numbers and infection chances, moral and health hazard stuff away for a while, let's put a Question:

Those commenting that exam is certain, please enlighten how an aspirant staying in a remote village having to reach his Prelims Centre (in a big city some 100s km away) whose bus/train option is almost nil, staying and fooding and last mile connectivity option at the City so uncertain can be sure she can reach the center on time and write her exam???

@Johnny_Distracted most places now have operational buses within the state. Those in containment will be allowed to leave. Also, even if the buses are not available now, the NDA exam will show up that weakness, if at all. Prelims is well placed post nda jee etc. By that time schools may also have opened up. These things have to be decided on balance, there is no perfect solution, how long shall they wait? And what's to say that the numbers will come down by December or even March?  Yes, an extra attempt would be the moral thing to do here for all exams, but they will be conducted.

@Itachi  Does it matter now for those who wrote Prelims last year? Even a bit?

What would UPSC lose if they released this key a week after Prelims exam every year?

If UPSC wanting to evading legal issues over answers is your answer, what stops aspirants from suing UPSC over 'wrong' answers now after exam is declared and put whole selection list to trial?

If none of above matter, can we be sure UPSC is a guardian of talent hunt in fair manner, or that our apex courts guardian of fairness, justice and a long list of rights of the aspirants??

@Tejas14 Cases will be twice, if not thrice, by then.
These numbers are not some meaningless numbers of paper.
These are people dying from infections. Those who could have been saved.

If Governments can go for elections, then why not exams. True.

It would be like Russian Roulette. Just that chances of casualties will be much much lesser. (i.e. To hold the exam, we would have to sacrifice 1/1000 to 1/10000 aspirants in the aftermath of the process). Survival of the fittest in the naked raw form. Gory. But that's the life ahead, it seems.

@Johnny_Distracted bhai suppose if there were no corona how remote village guy would have reached exam center? He will either go bus stand or railway station. Every state has one or more center right?they allowed change of exam center so that every one would travel at least inside their state. Ab aisa chahte ho ki pre corona like situation ho tv exams ho to 2022 me aana upsc dene.. bkoz full capacity me train bus ni chalengi.. yes it's unfair to the poorest of the poorest..but upsc ke tyari me hi km se minimum 10k lgte hai even u do self study..ab jb supreme court or upsc chairman insensitive hai ya fir mai..bro dunia lockdown me ni hai everyone is going out for their jobs buying essentials..trains full capacity me ni chalni wali km se km 6 to 8 mnths..buses chal rhi h..if any guy from remotest area would have to gve exam he would go to bus stand auto stand or railway stand by local transport. Bhai dunia apke room se bahar v hai kv road pr niklo subah 6 bje se honking start hojati h wovi lockdown me..bhai dunia me koi ni ruka hai bs hm apne dunia me jee rhe ki trains bus bnd h..I will find buses right on spot u name ur town
...bs ab postponement ki unmid chor do jiska prelims hoga wo Baji mar lega or agle saal is tym ias hoga ya kuch v or corona se v jitega..

It's not feasible to conduct the exam, but the government will. That is the story. It's an injustice that will be meted out on us.

Read my above Comment. Agar exam hoga to Russian Roulette hoga.

For now, let's wait for JEE/NEET/NDA.

@Johnny_Distracted While the situation is serious, please note that these numbers will keep coming down as testing increases, it is not that fatal a virus. The young are in fact least likely to die of it. In a messy situation this is what UPSC can do. Of course if the state governments categorically reject any chance of conducting exam it will have to be postponed but there's no chance of that happening imo. The streets have been back to life since May, the initial overreaction and panic is largely dead and buried.

@Tejas14 True, those who don't want to take the risk can skip it. The risk will likely remain same or worsen later on too.

Matlab ki maut ke saakshat tandav ki neev rakhi jayegi Prelims exam ke bahaane.

Sadists among us will have a field day on Oct4.

PS: If Governement is so keen about our over-population issue (which I agree is very big), they could have simply passed a population regulation bill. Ab aise jaan bujh ke citizens (wo bhi youth) ko maut ke saamne daalna is not a prudential decision.

Koi nahi. Life on earth is anyway anything but an absurdity. Mahan philosophers ki yahi vyakhya hai.

In that case, 1000s of aspirants will choose to reject the exam and sue UPSC and the Governement.

Opposition parties will then pick up the cue and try to force governement to change its decision (Why else opposition parties exist these days other than Opposing all decisions- good, worse or ugly- of the Governement)
Don't believe me? Wait and watch.

PS- If not me, Do believe the vellapan of students' community and their over-obsessive parents. Lol.

U mean:
Gather your masks and sanitizers.
And be ready to play the russian roulette.

4th October is the day.

@Johnny_Distracted for cse, upsc can very easily say people were given option to revoke their applications if they did not shows the intend to write the exam. At max compensatory attempt will be given (which should be) but rest they will conduct the exam. Plus don't have very high hopes with court, Upsc is smart - look how they released the final results right before court hearing because they weren't willing wait.
