[Results] Prelims 2020 Over - Gearing for 2021

Because of the corona virus issue? If it does not happen then worst affected will be people whose interview is stuck, around 600-700 such people I think are yet to appear for their interview.

@neyawn sir and others, what is your take?

This is the official Thread for discussion of Prelims Postponement, Please do not create new threads for the same.

My two cents that negates the possibility of prelims happening in july. UPSC hasn't given a date for interviews yet. Let's not forget that the interviews are still pending for around 500 odd people and we are still without a date as on 4.06.2020. Let me put it this way. This means that upsc is not in a position to call some 500 people to Delhi for the PI as on today. Now, do you really think that upsc would be in a position to call around 10 lakh candidates, from various parts of the country, at the exam centres just after a month from now?  Well i could be wrong but July seems highly unlikely. And the good thing is whatever happens, we will know tomorrow anyway.

@Agog though i am not really trying to start the veg vs non veg debate(everyone has his choice of what to eat) here but its a scientific fact too that our bodies are not designed to be a carnivore.

The food chain you are talking about is one based on rules of  nature! A tiger eating a deer is justified not a human eating tiger or a deer.

Here we are not contributing in any way to a food chain. Chickens and other animals for slaughter are rarely wild! Mostly raised in enclosures for sole purpose of consumption so food chain concept doesnt apply here as nature is not operating freely here . And i am expecting you must be aware of meat industry and its impact on environmental resources too!

Actually west has abused the concept of Meat eating. In India, whether be it north south east or west, Meat consumption is not taken as a daily deed to be done thrice a day. People here eat meat once a day, twice-thrice a week at max! That too regular eater. This overuse of meat in the diet from casual snacks to breakfast to everything is a western Idea that is costing the planet way too much. Plus, it is not healthy either!
HOT TAKE--Seriously man, last 200 years we have been led by wrong "civilization"  which does not know sustainability.

Actually meat eating started back when man was a hunter and gatherer. He had no option but to eat animals to survive. During those times the temperature on earth was very cold compared to what it is today. So the meat provided him energy and protein to sustain as he had wait a lot to eat his next meal, sometimes many days. He hadn't learnt practicing agriculture back then. It was only after he discovered fire and then made stone tools, iron tools with which he later started farming. So eating meat was justified back then. Scientists also say it was because of eating meat man had developed a superior and a large brain compared to other animals and through evolution what we have today is far more superior brain than what it was back then. But in the present context, i personally don't think it can be justified because we have developed agriculture. We are the smartest species on the planet yet we chose eat animals over other food when we have so many options to eat. I think it is cruel though eating meat might have some benefits but taking someone's life to satisfy your taste and bodily requirements can never be considered moral. Animals are not ours to eat. They have a personality. They have sentiments too. They are not a commodity to trade. This wildlife trade needs to stop. This pandemic has shown to the world that it is not a good idea to mess with mothernature and let the nature take its course as it is supposed to be and not meddle with it. Animal eating another animal is the way of the nature but man eating animal is not the way of the nature.

We all theoretically believe that violence is not right, but in reality we all have our compassion zone in which we have few races, few caste, few species who are worthy of our empathy, others our just doomed to the default settings we all bequeath from our ancestors. we humane people in name of practical needs(or sometimes culture and religion) manufacture ,enslave and slaughter animals in factory farms  and rationalise it by believing it to be the natural order of existence. wearing someones skin(leather, fur) is not food chain, manufacturing and enslaving them is not food chain..its sheer apathy. this nature of violence is not needed for us to survive..its redundant..its cruel ...also animal factory farming is one of the largest contributors to green house gases emissions .

just a questions ..why is not okay to kill dogs, cats but is okay to kill cows, pigs, goats and others.

@Katy_Singh So what's your views on rearing livestock for milk and farming purpose ? Isn't drinking milk unnatural (except in childhood) ?
