[Results] Prelims 2020 Over - Gearing for 2021

Because of the corona virus issue? If it does not happen then worst affected will be people whose interview is stuck, around 600-700 such people I think are yet to appear for their interview.

@neyawn sir and others, what is your take?

This is the official Thread for discussion of Prelims Postponement, Please do not create new threads for the same.

What do you guys think about the "cold factor" in delhi. I am from delhi itself, and i won.t particularly like to go through all the hassle of shifting books for a week to a new place. But i clearly remember,@Neyawn sir in one of the sessions mentioned about the old times when Mains was in winter months and people found it difficult to write in the early mornings. He even mentioned that one candidate used to practise by dipping his hand in cold water. Would it be wise to shift center just because of cold, even though am a Delhiite ?

Sir any views.@Yo_Yo_Choti_Singh @IWRA

Lol,

Yes i remember saying that long long back. Delhi does have the Winter problem, but then on that day feeling cold is last of your problems. There will be SO Many people, that it will be warmer than you think. Having said that, yes it does take time to warm your hands, but its an issue for everyone.

It is compensated for if you get UPSC as the Mains Center. Also, over the years some people have tried changing centers like Assam and other places in expectation of better marking. On that front also Delhi has provided a good and consistent marking.

Whatever you choose as your center, make sure that you there at least 15 days before the exam so that you are acclimatised to the place. Shouldn't be that you are having troubles sleeping at night before the day of the exam.

I have not seen people reap major benefits by center change. Those who have, are compensated for by those who have not.

@Neyawn for people who want dholpur house as their mains centre try giving prelims outside delhi and choose mains centre as delhi. this method has high success rate but not sure it will work this year.
i am not bluffing as i have seen people trying this method. this year i have done the same but due to covid i may change my delhi centre to somewhere near my location.
please guys don't criticize me on its effectiveness as i have already said it just increases the probability of getting upsc as a centre(as i said i don't know whether it will work this year for those who are changing centres).

Now that this information is public and will reach a lot of aspirants through this platform again the probability will further decrease🤣.

And sorry if i have confused my fellow aspirants who didn't want to change their centres in the first place. but i thought this was useful info that should be shared.

Jan 8th is in the midst of worst phase of delhi winter. 2019 winter was particularly harsh. That said, going to a new place will be particularly difficult  if covid is still around then (most likely).

Carrying a ton of books really should not be a problem. You hardly get any time between gs papers to read books, short notes is all you can look at. So it will just be the optional books/notes.

Sh Arun Kumar Saxena, Ex Jt Secy (DoPT) had floated this idea few days back on his facebook page. Looking at the sudden spike in covid cases in the recent days (all across India), it seems that many of us might face even greater problems/issues when it comes to preparations (travel (for interview candidates), red zones, containment zones etc)) in the coming few days/weeks.

Keeping the above in mind, I think it would be appropriate if somehow we get to atleast voice our concerns to DoPT and UPSC regarding the same. I wish to take your opinions. Uncertainties somehow tend to get the better of even the strongest among us, sometimes.

Any updates about the ORN containment zone? Any signs of it being lifted?

@FinalMission voice can only reach . When you have good numbers of aspirants around 500-1000 continously tagging Dopt minister, pmo ,opposition leaders continously on Twitter and other means like writing letters to all of them . I think Twitter optional is fast and easy
You can daily tag  them unless your grievance is addressed. You can also tag all the news channel also. I think it will work .

@Batmanreturns Thanks for the input. However I doubt if they take messages on social media seriously. I feel writing an official email would bear fruit faster. I might be wrong here though. Thousands of people tag ministers about millions of issues they face. how do they filter them out?

@Itachi  From the data of my 2 attempts surprisingly your method works.

@FinalMission Twitter method will work .I am 100% sure  because it worked in prelims postponement,  dopt minister was quick to reply to shashi Tharoor question. Dnt worry about filter . Try it , with other like mailing them , writing letters etc.

8th Jan won't be very harsh IMO. I am a Delhite. Temperature starts rising from Jan 10 onwards. Though 2019 winter was the coldest in the last 1-2 decades or so. It was bone chilling cold for atleast 2-3 weeks straight in  December'19 i.e. from 10 Dec to around 1-2 Jan. But January saw temperature rise a bit. As i used to go to office daily in the early morning, i would take note of temperature everyday. Trust me if the mains was in 2nd/3rd/4th week of December then we could have problem bcoz from what have I seen Delhi gets super cold during that time. But then also, it depends on other climatic factors as the last time when I felt most cold was in 2014. The last 5 years were warmer years when even in December we hardly felt any cold. It was moderately cold. I saw people hanging around in t shirts even in December. So, Delhi is unpredictable. And ofcourse so is mains. And I would suggest don't make your decision solely based on temperature.
