1. At a time when Empires in Europe were crumbling before the might of Napoleon, which one of the following Governor General kept the British Flag rising high in India?
(a) Warren hastings
(b) Lord Cornwallis
(c) Lord Wellesely
(d) Lord Hastings

2. In context of freedom struggle during Home Rule Movement, consider the following statements:
1. Campaign under Bal Gangadhar Tilak had religious undertones to it, which became a reason for the weakness of Home Rule Movement.
2. Tilak was criticised of being a conservative.

Which of the statements given above is/are correct?

(a) 1 only
(b) 2 only
(c) Both 1 and 2
(d) Neither 1 nor 2

Could be Cornwallis because he was fighting against Tipu in the 3rd Anglo Mysore war and Tipu was regarded a French ally by the Britishers.

1). I think Napoleonic wars happened later than Tipu? Tipu was more inspired by Jacobins. Not sure b/w c and d, I'll guess c? Remember reading somewhere Lord Hastings was very docile.

2). b i.e. 2 only? Religious undertones were more prominent during Swadeshi movement, I think.

@Will_Huntingi'd go with wellesely or hastings. Wellesley introduced subsidiary alliance as a way to safeguard India from napolean (this was asked in a pyq i think ), or it could be hastings as he was the governor general when napoleanic wars/continental system came to an end.
The answer given is Hastings.

1. I believe C. Read about censorship of press in 1799 by lord wellesely owing to the emergence of france and wars by Napoleon. Even hastings could be because he was the governor general during that time but hastings actually removed those censorships.

Was an interesting read, thanks! Although, didn't really find anything that explicitly talked about Tilak being criticised or not. But yes, the tenor of this article does suggest that Tilak post jail release became progressive.

Oh okay. Yes it was a good read. Found the Nehru-Gandhi-Jinnah dynamics in early years very interesting. Thank you.

Based on guess. The guessing part is based on Bilateral borrowing agreements. "bilateral" term made me think that AIIB and NDB are multi-lateral funds. Its a fund where collectively money is put and no as such bilateral arrangements exist IMO.

World bank gives loans primarily to developing countries for development, there is no biltaeral or multilateral arrangement as such. Its a bank of reconstuction and development.

IMF has been the primary lending body for countries, and I believed because of existence of SDR it would facilitate bilateral borrowing as well.

I may be wrong.

@sstarrrcorrect answer but reasoning shi nhi hai. these mechanisms are used by imf to raise funds, with quota system being the primary tool. These are not for granting loans to countries but countries and institutions granting loans to IMF.

I have a doubt, if someone can help :

Can the settlement of boundary dispute with another country be done via executive action ?

Explanation says that in 1969 SC held that boundary disputes could be settled by executive action as it does not involve any cession of territory.

However, #1, how does solving boundary dispute not involve cession of territory ?Won't enclaves be exchanged ?

Constitution (100th Amendment) Act, 2015 1An Act further to amend the Constitution of India to give effect to the acquiring of territories by India and transfer of certain territories to Bangladesh in pursuance of the agreement and its protocol entered into between the Governments of India and Bangladesh.

And, #2, a CAA was required here !

Please elaborate where I am getting lost.
