Because of the corona virus issue? If it does not happen then worst affected will be people whose interview is stuck, around 600-700 such people I think are yet to appear for their interview.
@neyawn sir and others, what is your take?
This is the official Thread for discussion of Prelims Postponement, Please do not create new threads for the same.
@VeronicaI can empathise with your thoughts. I always wanted to play guitar, set out on a solo trip & get the bike dirt on my face but alas! I fell in the upsc trap even when i had a way out. Always hiding my face from public gatherings and telling myself ki "apna time aayega"! Be it the scorching summer heat or the chilling winters, I've seen seasons come n go. It's not upsc that baffles me anymore but life! More than these seasons I've seen people changing, masks peeling off and that rawness fears me no longer. Every attempt makes me a wiser and a quieter person and though it's a very private affair, yet i evolve. Some call it a depression, others mark it as a liability, but the day i get to the other side of the wall, I'll make my every action as effective as my every step today. And if at all i don't, then more than burdening my child with my unfulfilled dreams, I'll advice her/him to follow their instincts even if it brings swollen eyes, frigid back and public shame... I've learnt that my private victory is much more larger and deeper than my public credentials! Call it a retreat or call it resistance- I'm a fighter and I'll fight till my end!

My take on cut off and paper----
1- paper was tough, confusing and unconventional.
2-also over emphasis on test series solving, current affairs, corona prob, anxiety etc will have an impact on cut off for sure.
3- last year cut off was 98 .... 2019 gs paper was on somewhere on lines of 2018...but 2020 is totally different.
Now on cut off-----
1--generally people adopts a liberal marking pattern and calculates their marks.
2-some 2000-3000 candidates will be there with 105+ type of score. But cut off is decided by average candidates and not by toppers.
3--whenever there is a wind that cut off will be around XYZ, candidates(large numbers) will tell their marks as XYZ+5 (don't know why but it is a set pattern)
4--cut off WILL NOT CROSS 95 in any condition.
@SantiCazorla bro quaterly surplus is due to a very uncommon and extraordinary reason- covid, and secondly whenrver ee talk.of CAD, FD we fenerally talk on annual basis and surplus hua bhi to overall to deficit hi rahega na
Haan bhai D hi degi upsc answer. Those who put extra thoughts into the word "presently" are unfairly punished though.

95 is for sure, it can fall 2 to 3 marks further due to difficult CSAT.
CL is always reliable for paper 2 since gud old days. They are pro in it. It will not vary more than 2 or 3 marks in toto.
Just glanced through and saw 2 math questions that are definitely wrong. The xyz+yxz one and product 21 sum 10 one. But definitely better than shankar
My opinion on cutoff speculations-
This was my 6th attempt.
Have written mains in all the earlier attempts and given interview thrice.
The 1st time I wrote pre was in 2013 and the last time I wrote pre was in 2017, could not write in 2018 & 2019.
I would say that I had a decent level of preparation, not as great as 2016/17 but not bad as well.
I found the paper to be extremely tough, nowhere in comparison to papers that used to come till 2017.
I have heard that papers were tough in 2018 & 2019 as well but I don't believe that they could be this tough.
It is almost like how many flukes you can get right, because to attempt in excess of 70 you had to guess and guess only.
My opinion is as under-
1. The cutoff would fall by around 5 marks (if not more).
2. The high marks we are seeing being posted here and there are bcoz mostly people getting good scores only post their scores (just like mocks).
3. There have been and always will be people who will score way above the cutoff. people had scored in excess of 150-155 also in 2016-17, so don't bother about that. And in that era also people used to say that cutoff would be this much that much seeing those scores, but in the end cutoff used to be lower than predictions. (Except for 2016 which was due to extremely easy paper)
4. There is always a scope of difference in marks calculated by institutes and upsc, so if you believe you are getting 87-88+ (after discounting for the tricky ones) then you should start studying for mains (after chilling for 2-3 days).
5. Those who aren't even close to the expected cutoff, don't dishearten yourself and don't blame your sources of studying. The main aim of sources and test series is to give you confidence that you are preparing well. So take it that way only. Upsc has always been far ahead ( or behind you can say) of what these coaching institutes could prepare you for.
Thank you.
P.S.- I am scoring around 100.
What ever may be the result Start reading for mains
if u qualify prelims it will help this year
if u not qualify this year it will help you in next year
next year there are only 80 days between prelims and mains unless u complete mains portion at least once prelims it will be difficult to complete in those 80 days
But still there was no viable option even if tbey did put extra thought. Only.viable option was D
