[Results] Prelims 2020 Over - Gearing for 2021

Because of the corona virus issue? If it does not happen then worst affected will be people whose interview is stuck, around 600-700 such people I think are yet to appear for their interview.

@neyawn sir and others, what is your take?

This is the official Thread for discussion of Prelims Postponement, Please do not create new threads for the same.

@Equalizer  Bhai I did not give 2019 but solved it before 2020 prelims. I got 115 with UPSC key and in 2020 I am getting from 87 to 95, i felt it was tougher than 2019. Though comparing actual exam performance with solving in room.may not be judicious but still I felt 2020 CSAT was a notch higher in difficulty level than 2019.

How many marks could fall due to difficult csat?. IMO 2 MARKS.

I sometimes have this problem of not being able to sleep the night before exam. Not just for few hours but whole night. Even this time even though I slept at 9.30pm, I was wide awake whole night. Can anyone suggest me something to overcome this. I asked a doctor to suggest me Sleeping pills but he didnt prescribe, saying they will affect my performance. I donno wat else to do.

Doctor was correct. Don't take pill. U could not sleep because of sympathetic system.

Tough Not toughest imo gs takes so much toll of time n energy  that csat is being neglected taken casually to the extent of becoming a big giant nightmare on the eve of exam n obviously the covid scene broke  consistency of Delhi based aspirants .

I think we should request UPSC to relax csat paper 2 cutoff in light if problem faced due to covid and mask protocols..

Its a try we can make..

Which year was toughest than. I have given paper from 2015 with one year break. Have seen paper of 2014 also. I think it was the toughest or may be 2017.

when did you stop studying ? Never study after 7pm . mind knows exam tomorrow so starts producing cortesol in huge amount .  And never sleep after lunch . drinking hot milk with honey also works . Also drink banana pill tea i.e boil bana pill in water and drink the brownish water . potassium calms nerve .  Stay away frm sugar after 4pm . And stay relax ....   after this yr u must knw there is no point of loading information ftr information ..

@Subramanyam I used to feel the same
so this time I was practising to sleep daily with some routine activities like listening to rstv debates or meditation with searching inner-self

this way you make your mind calm and will be trained to control the anxiety and stress associated with this exam

so the only way is to practice how to make your mind calm well before(min 2months before) any exam
it helps you indeed

@Subramanyam i read this in a book. The mental hack is to strongly believe that you would do better in tests especially when you have no sleep the last night. It will work for 1 day exam like prelims but for mains you need to look for a more permanent solution.

@Equalizer True I myself have found 2014 to be the toughest till date n 2015 to be most easiest

Getting 94 by Forum's key. Did a lot of overthinking in S&T questions and getting a lot of those wrong. Having cleared prelims twice before, this is so tough to take. But have no choice except start studying for mains. Only 80 odd days between pre and mains next year.

You can have melatonin. It is OTC. .. Melatonin is sleep harmone. It can bring  you easy sleep. Take it two hour before atleast of your scheduled sleep time.

Also , If you want herb - You can use Ashwagamdha ... That os a sedative.

I have prepared since last of my years with a full time software programming job... which makes to stay everything to get them happen on time in 24 hour cycle. I use both of these intermittently.

But, If you are just preparing .. You do not need to do both. You just practice since start of your prep.. like 2 months before... follow a proper schedule. Do not squeeze yourself at night.
This time .. My schedule was  I wake up as early as 3 AM and study till 11 AM... of course with breaks.

Then 12 to 8 .. office work

then food and sleep.
I stopped doing anything after 12 morning ..other than office work. And .. If anyday.. I was not able to do study in morning... I never broke my schedule though. If i have missed today's study ... I did not squeeze myself at night. I keep that fire alive for next morning. After all we have just 24 hour. Ee should not break our cycle. Because... It will break the natural clock of body controlled by circadian rhythm. ... and .. If you have once lost that ... it is difficult to regain.
Also, When you change your schedule of sleep and getting up every second day.. Your body gets confused and your circadian rhythm fails to understand when to release sleep harmones. ... Body fail to understand when u actually have to sleep and need rest. So .. Following a schedule is better. I did one more improvisation this year. I solved CsAT for 2 to 3 hours in afternoon after lunch. It accommodated me to solve maths in drowsy mood as well. Body is a great system.. very flexible amd adaptable.. Convert it what yoy want to be. Be regular and be desciplined in 24 hr regime. However, You can take medicine only as exception .. if your routine has broken due to skme exigencies.

@Subramanyam I have experimented with similar sleep issues.
When i want to change my sleep schedule(like shift sleep from day to night) i break sleep- sleep halfway and wake up to get sleep next day on time.
For paper day, try to take everything easy(low stress) in last week
Last day don't study or minimum study, have good food of ur choice ( or sweets) , meditate(helps sleep) . Hope some of it works.

why cant you plan to study and practice it as well since January just 2 hour a day for two months. You will simply qualify. Putting blame on upsc for what is required and expected from aspirants is not a solution. Khud se mat karo required and jab consequences ho to paper hi hata do.
I failed in paper 2 twice just because .. I thought I am phantom .. but .. I changed my ways and I came in my aukaaat ..  and solved CSAT 2 this year quite a few times .. and qualified with a dignified score in paper 2.
Dont mind my comment as bad... But .. We need to introspect.. before putting finger on UPSC.
