Note-This post is not at all related to CSE. It is just about understanding a day to day human behaviour.

Few days ago I had a question raised in my mind and thought deeply about where I can get an answer to it. Then I felt that this platform is the best where I can find answer to my question. As per me, aspirants with Pschology as optional will be the ideal ones to answer it but others may feel free as well to share their views. And my question is.....

Let us suppose that I am going to home late at night around 2 am and i am running late. I am on a two way road which has a traffic signal showing green light on my side but before I cross it, it turns red and now the duration of the red light is 200 seconds. Now, there is literally no one on both sides of the road(including the opposite side). I know that one purpose of traffic signals is to regulate traffic movement by stopping the traffic on one side and letting the other side go. But as there is no one on the opposite side and the red light is also of 200 seconds, what should be my future action?

If I cross the red light, will it be morally wrong but also logically right as I am already late and hence by jumping the light I’m saving my time? Or by obeying the signal, I am being morally correct but logically wrong as there is no other person to cross over?
P.S.-I know it is a silly question and I request you not to curse me for making you read such a long post. Also if you are reading this post, you should mention what will you do if you are in such a situation. Stay honest about jumping the red light or waiting for it to be green.

@IthriveoncocaineDepends on where you are bruh. In India ? Then definitely you can jump the red light. Mainly because even in signals with cameras, there'll be no consequences. Suppose if you are in USA ? Then you have to consider the fine and the urgency. If urgency outweighs cost... then go for it.

This U.S.A. thing that you mentioned about is now happening in Delhi too. Challans are being issued on violation of traffic signals via cameras.
And in my case, the urgency is to prevent myself from getting scolded by parents and the penalty if any will be of ₹1000.?

@Ithriveoncocaineit's okay to jump in Bangalore if there's no one at the other end. Here the camera quality is not that great?

And you are talking about 2am! Your rear red light and the night dark mode increases blurring effect in the pics. I would have definitely jumped?

@IthriveoncocaineAnd this morally right or wrong need not be evolved from rules/ law book only. For me morality is not harming or even to create panic amongst others and the rules by any administrator would be to serve that purpose only. So to be very very honest this is what i have been doing all these times. Even in day light when I'm in a hurry , i check all the other ends( including police?), if the red light is over 60s n if i find no vehicle within ~400m or pedestrian within 50m i just jump the signal.

@IthriveoncocaineI would better cross the road. There are other actions which have grave moral implications. Eg if you are in hurry and suddenly you saw few lumpens harassing a girl, in this case no action would amount to grave moral implication.
However following the rules would always be a preferred case.

Yesterday I was explaining to one girl about the present CAB issue. In the midway she interrupted me and told me to stop talking “non sense” and rather talk dirty. It hurted me a little.(JK)

This mentioning of yours about me making perfect sense just made my eyes wet emotionally.

Well said brother!
This random thought of mine turned into a kind of delima for me that wether I should be morally right or logically right.
To be honest, what I concluded is that I can be morally right during the day time and logically right during the night time. :3

@TETRACYCLINEI can understand, just asking a question about optional- would a combo of papers completion + 60% correct answers in both papers be enough to drag the score to 270s ?

@Ithriveoncocaineif it's a clear road and there is no harm in crossing, then I would cross it(frankly speaking it's also scary standing alone in a red light at 2 a.m.), if on a 4 wheeler, would be more careful to cross. Btw, there's a reason why they leave most of the lights blinking yellow/amber at night
