Geography optional Mains 2019 discussion | Lessons Learnt

Where are all the poor souls of geo in forum ?
Guys... What do you think about paper 1 ? Would it be like 2017 where people claimed they got much more than expected due to some lenient correction ?
Similarly in paper 2 I found that I had very less case studies and facts to quote on paper. Pls do comment so that we can have a gauge of the way optional is going.

@hirockyrocks7101yes bro.
But anythng above 250 in geo needs quite an effort

@Scorpion888but that effort goes in vain as other optionals like anthro get 300 with same level of efforts.

@hirockyrocks7101what's your score in your previous attemts

@vvvikas0078212ya even I didn't use any theory ..just tried to address the demand of question ...data about increasing urban population and industrialisation ->increased demand of land in city for residence or commercial purposes ->led to high prices of land->hence verticle growth of cities to accommodate more and more people in lesser surface areas ->affordability resulting into formation of unauthorized colonies with lack of basic facilities ->leading to growth of slum .

Examples of Dharavi Mumbai , Shadipur Delhi , Yellahanka Bangalore

Conclusion me initiatives like suburbs amrut scheme planning like Navi Mumbai NCR ,slum rehabilitation prog etc

Ab 10 marks me theories diagram mujhse adjust nai ho paya

@hirockyrocks7101Not always true. I scored 146 in p2 in 2016 and 131 next year, 15 marks down. Is bar map bhi 5 hi hue hai

@hirockyrocks7101Is bar Anthropology ke sath vhi hona chahye jo geo ke sath 2015 me hua

@Arrah_Jilaqusn was asking to correlate price of land verticle growth and growth of slum and I guess no theory talks all these things ...so just mentioning them here won't give a good impression ...it might backfire

@vvvikas0078212I gave only 1 mains, so can't compare. But I expected 130, got 141. Scaling effect maybe.

@Arrah_Jilabut bhai concentric zonation model use hi isiliye Kiya kyunki it clearly establishes correlation between all these 3 aspects. CBD at the centre with highest vertical growth and highest land prices and zone 1 with light manufacturing units along with working class dwellings like slums and ghettos. The the reasons why it is so. I maybe wrong but I found the demand of the question directly linked to this particular theory. Then in the end post modern cities with gentrification and multiple nuclei development as one CBD can't fulfil demand of whole city when it expands. Thus slums also gets scattered.

@vvvikas0078212no one knows ...Hmare case m ulta hua 131 (2017) to 148(2018) with less mapping

@hirockyrocks7101Bhai agree most people have given reference of this model ...but in Indian large cities ye model utna applicable hai nai...u can relate this to any big cities of India

Overall itna deep to examiner ko Jana nai chahiye I guess aapka ye reference positive h rahega?

@Arrah_JilaUsed this to give the answer a theoretical base and post modern cities with gentrification phenomenon along with multiple nuclei model to explain development of Indian cities along with diagram. Assuming 7 marks in this but now iam having serious doubts.

@hirockyrocks7101In western cities, rich people tend to move to outskirts and near CBD working class can stay. In India, rich live right in middle of city and middle lower class move outskirts. That's why slum growth in middle of cities due to huge unaffordable prices. CBD model exactly doesn't explain India's mixed land use pattern and slum issue.

@vvvikas0078212bazar based or shop house type arrange is more suitable in india

2.9k views

@vvvikas0078212In my opinion multiple nuclei model does explain this development of dharavi near banda kurla CBD which is secondary CBD also netaji Subhas Palace secondary CBD in Delhi and prembari pul slums. Though I didn't give these examples due to lack of space. Also slums moving towards city periphery due to gentrification and city beautification drive like bhalaswa slums in Delhi.

@Scorpion888exactly, the point is to use theory in this answer to substantiate it, whether it's bazar based model or Concentric zonation or port based model.
