[Results] Prelims 2020 Over - Gearing for 2021

Because of the corona virus issue? If it does not happen then worst affected will be people whose interview is stuck, around 600-700 such people I think are yet to appear for their interview.

@neyawn sir and others, what is your take?

This is the official Thread for discussion of Prelims Postponement, Please do not create new threads for the same.

Keep your parents and yourself safe. We managed to find a bed for my father with much difficulty. The hospital has only one ventilator which is already in use. I'm praying he won't need it. I've been sick for two days, i doubt if i will get a bed if i need one. No exam should happen.

Location : Guntur/Vijayawad in Andhra Pradesh. If anybody has contacts that can help me or my mother get a bed on the day we need it, please help. Thanks

The situation is a tough one, but all of you will come out stronger, healthier and happier. The almighty will definitely help and protect. Sab accha hoga, all of us will pray for you. Don't worry about exams, no matter when it will happen, you will ace it. You are strong, super strong. Take care champion.

I can't even imagine what you are going through. Stay strong friend. Everything will be okay. I wish you and your family members a speedy recovery.  Seeing all this around even I think no exams should happen.

Its better if we all can help "phagocyte" physically. if we cannot help him, atleast let's not freak him out. He is visibly concerned about the health of family  and about the exam date. Let's not make his fears worse with our predictions. All of us know the psy'chological state of a person worrying about the health of a family member. if possible, lets comfort him till he gets out of the situation. If not, i opine that we remain calm without predicting about exam date. Let's not forget that,  'that' situation can befall on anyone of us (God forbid!!).

//Let's empathize with our co-aspirant and wish him success. We should not forget that 'empathy' is a cardinal virtue of civil servant. //

@PSY Refrain from such comments. It is a recruitment exam at the end of the day. I hope@Phagocyte comes strongly out of this.

some thoughts on people comparing JEE with UPSC-CSE :-

1) JEE exams are feeder exams. If JEE doesn't take place, engg. institutions lose the student input and the infrastructure lay waste . CSE is recruitment exam, the govt. can simply extend the existing tenures of retiring personnel to meet the resource crunch. so, literally govt doesnt lose anything by postponing exams. (on a lighter note, it saves one year salary) whereas, by postponing JEE exams, it loses one year admission fees.

2) the number of students to be trained at mussorie may not be more than 200. whereas, the number of engg. passouts will be more than 40,000. so, the pressure on infrastructure is different. (if JEE is postponed, the next year colleges should bear 80,000 (40k of this year, and 40k of the next year) student pressure. and that's unavoidable. whereas, UPSC can temporarily change the training norms and absorb the 400 officers training  (200 + 200)

3) Number of exam centres for Jee ( in terms of count of cities) , is geographically higher than that of CSE.  (a personal example: Journey to my nearest JEE centre needs a single bus journey of 50minutes, I can even start on a two wheeler on the date of exam. whereas journey to my nearest UPSC centre is of around 8 hours with 3 buses, and every bus be on schedule, and it demands a night stay before the exam date)

Though UPSC gave centre change option, i thought that they would increase the number of exam centres. but thats not the case.

4) if a healthy student falls sick after writing JEE exam, that will not affect his future schedule. He will wait for a fortnight and then carryon with his counselling process . That's not the case with CSE aspirant. if he falls sick due to his exposure because of prelims exam, he loses a fortnight and thereby his mains. as a corollary, he also loses the count of one attempt.

Jee is not upsc but it does set a trend ..  If govt is risking jee there is no reason for not risking upsc . It does convey the stand of govt .  If high court decision comes in favour of govt then it ll be seen as a green light for all exam . And upsc is always keen to show how efficient it is .

Struggled to find bed for 58 year old. I'm +ve, unlikely to find a bed, if i deteriorate i don't know who will take the risk and drive me to hospital. Not trying to scare you all, but this is the reality once corona is in us.

Seems like 2020 is whitewash. Exams might happen in Q1 - 2021. UPSC 2021 cycle will be disrupted and new one will begin from December 2021 or January 2022. Delhi and Mumbai will witness peak in the month of September or October and after that curve will start to flatten. We can safely assume that exams can be conducted in January - February.

@Phagocyte

I know that its easy for me to write and tell you to stay strong but I can also empathise turmoil of emotions you would be going through.

These are very uncertain times and worrying of uncertainty definitely increases anxiety. Like today things are fine for me and family but what if tomorrow similar situation comes up.

The silver lining is to stay connected to our soul/self/inner conscience. Being grateful and pray for others well being.

Also Dont worry about exam, its not above life. With right attitude lets face tests which life is giving. Stay spirited.

@Phagocyte  These must be extremely trying times for you, and I wish you strengh so that you may be resolute in the face of adversity. I wish and hope that everything shall turn out well. Be sure to not let external uncontrollable factors such as the examination affect you. Your and your family's health is paramount. That is the only priority as of now.

This too shall pass. And when you come out of it, may you emerge stronger. Best wishes, dear friend.
