[Results] Prelims 2020 Over - Gearing for 2021

Because of the corona virus issue? If it does not happen then worst affected will be people whose interview is stuck, around 600-700 such people I think are yet to appear for their interview.

@neyawn sir and others, what is your take?

This is the official Thread for discussion of Prelims Postponement, Please do not create new threads for the same.

The decision to use the word 'donate' is awe-inspiring. :) Many people, at such occasions, decide to go with the word 'sell'!

Guys I cleared with around 90 marks, thanks to SC category butI seriously have to say one thingto those who think they cleared but yet couldn't feature in the list.

Even though this is my first attempt and started prep in April what I have realised talking to people who have given quite a number of times and a few who are in the service is they have never seen so many people who claim to have cleared both CSAT and GS but still didn't qualify. I know many genuine guys who are shocked they couldn't clear and there is little chance of them flunking CSAT, IIT background with more than decent Comprehension skills. Tbh I majorly did comprehension and yet cleared. Got 80% of them right. In hindsight, it was definitely a wrong strategy but anyway I crossed the mark.

Now coming to the point, I wanted to make, I honestly believe there is something really off with the result. They published the result within 19 days in a lockdown situation. They needed to check 5 lacs copies. The data entry is done manually and these guys would have been under immense pressure to get it done. Remember this is handled by private company employees who can't be really screwed legally. Chances are high there was some mistake in data entry or worse they have just directly entered random marks in some cases without checking to meet the deadline. It has happened in other exams, it can happen in UPSC too especially when Pvt company employees are pressured to meet unrealistic deadlines.

My suggestion to you all: File an RTI asking for certified copies of your OMR. Don't ask for cut off or Model Answers.

What will it achieve: Even if they deliberately, delay the response to push it near or after the mains, if you would have actually cleared the prelims, and your OMR was wrongly marked/checked/data properly not entered, you can approach the Court for a direct attempt at mains next year. And the Court will in all probability grant that request because there has to be some compensation monetary or otherwise. Remember even after all your preparations you can actually legitimately fail prelims next year so why not waiver that stage off for you, if you genuinely deserved it this year. The process is not really that taxing. I have seen people getting things done through RTI in a breeze. And if the facts are also concretely in your favour High Courts also dispose of the Case in 1/2 hearing especially ones related to Important exams. Best of Luck if you go ahead.

Thanks.

With all due respect the pain of Unreserved general category can only be felt by those are in it and fail year after year at any stage in any exam with the smallest of margins due to the insane competitions and ever decreasing seats yet have nowhere to go but give another try.

@skandagupta I sympathise with you, brother. Tbh if I didn't have reservation I wouldn't have even tried for UPSC given the crazy uncertainty and the fact that I have a cushy private job. I am only trying for IAS, hogaya toh accha nai toh shayad aur ek adh bar denge, nai toh khuda hafiz! Maybe I will leave job for a year max but that's it.
Also, this exam the prelims is a big joke is what I have realised. The fact that you can get around 15 questions correct just by tukka technique is hilarious. 15 questions can mean a difference of 30 marks at the min and 40 marks at max.
The biggest problem with UPSC is it declares cut off and other details after 1 year! This is in my opinion what makes the exam, so mentally taxing.

It feels like something has been genuinely wrong in declaration of results this time. But God only knows the reality. And UPSC will skirt the issue very cleverly.

Appreciate your honesty. But there's very little evidence about UPSC fudging anything during the exam process. Those who fail have to move on, this thing about doubts on the process/cutoffs happen every year but at the end of the day they will only select 12-13x of the seats available so those who want to clear in GEN category have no option but to be in top 4000/5000 of the 10k/11k candidates who clear prelims. It is the same for every stage every year and in every exam. We have to accept the reality and move on is what it is for all of us. ATB!

i suspect a lot of people went cool with paper 2 especially

@Sramana I really didn't mean to offend anybody or rub salt. It was my genuine feeling and that is what I wrote. As I said this was my first attempt so may be wrong with my analysis/understanding but the intention was never wrong.

ok sir

but it happens everyyear...individuals check institute keys ,find scores good enough to be qualified..but later doesnt...chances go even by 0.33 marks sometimes..but thats how it is everyyear..

counter examples are also there..some feel hopeless about clearing cutoff but find some more answers correct as per official key and get to write mains

so one doesnt know what has happened

plus this year csat was tricky very much compared to previous years..the tried test method of attempt 38-40 sureshot questions may not hve worked eapecially when one has attempted quite a good number of passages (not saying easy or difficult but tricky)

it is like a blackhole..

all the best to you..study well for mains.!
