Because of the corona virus issue? If it does not happen then worst affected will be people whose interview is stuck, around 600-700 such people I think are yet to appear for their interview.
@neyawn sir and others, what is your take?
This is the official Thread for discussion of Prelims Postponement, Please do not create new threads for the same.
@Sramana I really didn't mean to offend anybody or rub salt. It was my genuine feeling and that is what I wrote. As I said this was my first attempt so may be wrong with my analysis/understanding but the intention was never wrong.
I totally agree with you. I have been into this process last few years and cleared multiple times consecutively. Despite scoring around 108(multiple answer keys) paper 1, omitting all so called controversial ones, and 90+ in paper2, along with obc category cutoff, I couldn't make it this time. The problem with many others is that they are not even sure about getting qualifying marks in paper 2. That's why there is a general acceptance of result by many though none of us know what would have really happened. It is high time upsc released prelims marks scored by individuals and cut off. I dont know what upsc is worried about when everyone knows that it is an objective paper and has no effect on final score. Something has to be done to bring in atleast a semblance of transparency to this process.
DAF-1 out
Ah!
Just sharing some feelings, so that resonating people will find a person with same situation or worse.
It was 15 Jan 2020, I was sure about getting interview call (second attempt it was), just planning things for interview and all. Besides States PCS mains was written and result was awaited. (Was too confident in my abilities)
That night b/w all the chaos of result coming or not, it finally came. I didn't believe my name wasn't there. I searched and searched and searched, no use.
Then came namewise list, again searched, no use. Found similar named person, then he became the reason for my misery. People searched my name found that and congratulate me. It was headache for me for next 10-15 days.
Somehow regained courage then came DAF-II, did futile attempt to go to website and filling credentials just to see "entered roll no. Not qualified"
Then came August State PCS result for mains, though I wasn't prepared much. Everybody was saying this year cutoff will be low and this... Cutoff went record high. I wasn't there also.
At 22 writing mains for UPSC and State was sort of achievement for people from our area or community.
Now I was 24, 4th Oct found GS1 on tougher side but knew if it is tough for me then it is for everyone. Did clichéd mistake of filling wrong bubble but wasn't worry at all. Usually do 95+ questions but then settled with 90.
CSAT wasn't and isn't an issue. Came to hotel counted with ByJu's getting around 90, got first shock. Then some good keys came out, score went up to 102-105.
Cutoff predictions came and I was sure I am writing mains this time also. Was preparing for Mains whole heartedly, finished nearly half of optional.
It was around 16/17 marks for last year released. Got to know I missed mains cutoff by 2 marks (across 7 papers it is nothing but it is everything). Self-confidence got boost up, sure to make this time to the final list I was more enthusiastic.
Just one week later fake PDF, no roll no., 5 min later news that it was fake, relieved. Then after 30-40 minutes original result was there. And boom again roll no. wasn't there.
Repeat of Mains 2019 result: checked multiple times, checked name wise list, today itself checked DAF-I filling. All for nothing.
From imagining myself in final list around May 2020 to being failure in this exam (not in life) was too quick.
I don't know what I will do now. Left corporate job for this exam. And seriously even if someone pay me 20 Lakhs per annum, I would never love that job for sure.
Being from IIT, I don't know why I have ego to not give other exams. They are tough for sure.
Hard times
Give some suggestions apart from studying for next attempt. (Asking to all)
PS: Why it is more painful that last year my prelims score was 122 and im every mock I was killing it. But ya expectations are cause of sorrow.
Very similar story here man. Except that I reached the interview in 2019(2nd attempt) and missed the final list by 13 marks. Scored 115 in pre last year. This year went down to 90-95. It is very painful and more than that just difficult to accept. But we have to do that I guess. I didn't score well in GS last year(353 only) so there is an area I have to massively improve upon. You will also have some weak areas as well. Start working on them. Keep in mind that next year there are 80 odd days between prelims and mains.DAF-1 outAh!

IITian here too.
My 2 cents after talking to seniors:
1. Don't be without a job for more than 2 years(ideally take one year off). You will be able to give exams more peacefully. In UPSC what matters is your D-Day performance and that can only peak if you are relaxed. Another year or two..and pressure will start building up. Salary of many of your batch mates will skyrocket in the next 2/3 years(especially product companies). That will make you question your decision, will deviate you. So join a job, post-Corona. You have pretty much covered it all by now you just need to revise.
2. Let go off a bit of ego, it does more damage than good. Especially don't compare yourself with non-IITians clearing before you because most of us decide quite late we want to join civil services. You are not going to get in before a guy who started studying when he was 19, no matter how smart you are. I decided when I was 24 so doesn't make sense to get dejected seeing guys clearing it at 22. LOL. Let's say you clear IAS in the next attempt, you will be 26 by the time you join the service. There will be officers younger than you but senior to you from a non-descript background, who you may have to take orders from. It will really bruise your ego if you don't let go of it.
