Mains 2019 Preparation and Discussion Thread

@Katsumotowe all have our struggle stories bhaai. What works well in my case is an extremely supportive family and a few very good friends. But being alone while my peers are doing well professionally hits me really hard many a times.

I know getting a good result is not guaranteed but preparing for CivilS is a life changing experience for anyone, from both thinking as well as learning perspective. There's a lot we've learnt in this journey which will give us a boost in life ahead.

Hoping both of us clear the exam and more importantly, remain happy and strong in life.

Sometimes I just want to be that carefree old self w/o the loads of information roaming around in my head..

I think it is fear of result which is driving you and others including me insane. Try to remain positive.

@Caesarthat's pretty much what I aspire as well and I was in this zone atleast in the month of October. Travelled a fair bit and forgot that I even gave the exam. Results aane Ke Aas paas dimaag phir se kharaab hone lag gaya ab

2016 mein course cover nahi kiya tha gs aur optional mein to lga ki 2017 mein sab padke jaunga...phir 2017 mein poora to nahi cover kiya lekin improvement hui aur kuch -2 baatein samajh mein aayi ki kya padna hai aur kya nahi....but 2019 mein sab padke gya jo-2 socha tha lekin iss baar samajh hi nahi aa rha ki mains accha hua hai ya nahi.....gs 2 aur 3 mein to padne ka kuch fayda hi nahi lga...pta nahi kya hoga 5th attempt hai aur energy hi khatam hoti ja rahi hai...bina naukri ke society aise dekhti hai jaise koi heinous crime kar diya ho...phir shaadi ki tension...kabhi-2 to lagta hai ki sab chod ke kisi aur planet pe chale jao yahan to bahut chaos hai....pta nahi kyu mujhe aisa lagta hai ki preparation phase mein aapke pass koi aisa hona chaiye jissey aap khul ke baat kar sake Issey stress kam hota hai..mere saath jo madam thi ab unhe koi aur accha lagta hai.....baaki maa daily kehti ki samay ek jaisa nahi rehta ....so i have faith in myself and my mother ....apna time aayega.....all the best to all dedicated upsc aspirants

Ye naukri karna and the pressure to be successful sb post-industrial age k chochle hain humse kaam nikalwane k, success ko khali material achievements se compare krna.. Aur aggar apki madam ko koi aur acha lg gya h toh usme apki koi galti nhi h, maybe u deserve better.. Aur rahi bat shadi ki toh India me jo shadi nhi krna chahta uski bhi ho jati hai, baki woh sb toh apke ghar wale bhi dekh lenge.. I think thats too much unsolicited gyan for the morning

I have written one quote in Sanskrit (just one line in Devnagari Script) in one of Essay in Essay Paper .. Will it affect the marking ?

@TheHobbitit would have been better if you'd written the translation in English, but anyway I don't think any marks will be deducted, though you may not be rewarded adequately for the quote as well

@ChanakyaThanks Bro .. While writing ,it skipped from my mind to translate quote in English script ,, Lets see what will happen .

@TheHobbitmere frnd ka kata tha 5 marks, in ethics he used sanskrit quote at one place,
not in essay, maybe essay wala bura na mane.

@TheHobbitplus ye penalty marks wala seriously 2018 me hi dekha unhone lets see what happens in 2019, at one place galti se margin ke bahar ek word chala gaya in optional, cant do anything now

One of my friend had given Mains 2018 with Electrical Engineering optional , his medium was Hindi but as in graduation he studied Engineering in english , so it was difficult to write many standard terms in Hindi ,, so at many places in Mains Optional , he wrote standard terms in English only ,, Later usko 15 marks ki penalty hui ,,

@sat_009sirf ek jagah margin se bahar word ke jaane ka koi issue nahi hoga ,, its very minor issue .. Chill ...

@sat_009@TheHobbitany idea about how many marks will be deducted if word limit is not adhered ?

@sernihilono marks r deducted for exceeding word limit. Bt writing very less will definitely affect marks.

However if u r exceeding word limit in each question then will b difficult to complete paper.

So consider word limit as merely a guide to complete the paper

@TheHobbitNO. Not at all just for one line as long as it is meaningful

@TheHobbit- last year i had written a shloka in 1 essay in hindi. Got 141.
But this time I didn't take the risk after UPSC released a list of do's and don'ts.
Wrote everything in English. The Sanskrit too.
