How was your paper? How did you approach the paper?
@Philip_Marlowe yes they have mentioned that coherence is important. the moment i put subheadings in there, this coherence is lost
Subheadings add value to the essay..
They give a good idea of what is to follow in the para..
Many toppers wrote subheadings n scored 150+..
I see nothing wrong with subheadings..
is it possible to clear mains without writing a single test?
Possible..
Around 80% candidates join test series..
But do all of them get selected..no..
The aim is answer writing practice and to improve upon your weaknesses..
If you can do that without test series.. it's ok.. many clear without test series
@Declared_Dead value toh nai add karta hai. content achha likha hoga. baki coherence kaise banega pata nai muje. waise maine kisi topper ko suna nai ye bolte ki subheading daalna hai. mocks me air 1 ka koi subheading nai mila muje. zaada copies nai dekha but jitne bhi toppers ka dekha h kisime bhi subheading nai hai.

Maine to jitne v toppers k videos dekhe hain.. most of them recommended subheadings..
I scored 131 n 135 in 19 n 20 mains..
My content was not great..in 2020 mains essay paper..I went to exam hall after barely sleeping for 3 hours.. during second essay I struggled to concentrate due to sleepiness..
I don't say that it was only due to subheadings.. but I only mean to say that subheadings don't break coherence..

If one has good essay writing skill then sub-headings can be ignored. They can get good marks without following this approach.
But candidates having poor writing skill should follow sub-heading approach. Sub-headings may break flow but ensure that one is not deviating from topic or if deviated then can come back in next sub-heading. Also this ensures clarity (if one has poor writing skill).
Sub-heading approach ensures average marks for those having poor writing skill or those not having natural flow while writing essay. So any approach should be chooseb as per ones own strengths nd weaknesses
Definitely writing without sub-headings/without forced pointers like in this essay we will discuss../without writing not only in field of politics but also in society../ without forcibly adding question in last line of para to link with next para--- it will be awarded highest.
But such a writing style does not come naturally especially to those with science background. Here one has to make a choice- either take an approach which guarantees avg marks or another which may give 150 (best case) or 105 (poor articulation nd flow)
