How was your paper? How did you approach the paper?
People making such authoritative and definitive statements about marking/methodology here! Where do you get all this confidence from? :P
True!! World of upsc is post modern ,there is no absolute truth, we should act rather more prudently while presenting our opinions. newer aspirants might wrongly interpret these ideas to be the absolute.

Psir student spotted
I have written both the essays with heading and sub heading. Actually in the past i too had a similar opinion, about breaking the flow and all. I had 142 in 2017 and 122 in 2019. In 2019 2nd essay was screwed as I had spent so much time on VALUE wala essay that in the end i had to rush. So 2nd essay was about 6 - 7 pages with a hasty conclusion and all technical point on education/ health topic.
This time I had gone through videos of essay classes by shabbir sir, vision ias ( available on some Tele channels) both of which actively encouraged subheadings. * This time I've followed the advise of coaching walas and written with subheadings. I cant award myself any marks, but both the essays felt pretty decent after writing, even regarding subheadings i dint feel much different than normal.
Reading the conversation here makes me wonder if heading / subheading does affect our final marks.

If people are getting good marks with subheadings, then why bother?

People make such statements through their personal experiences. A candidate follows one approach in one attempt and another in next. Depending upon marks he makes some conclusion that wat works or not. He will preach about approach which he thinks has worked with confidence which may seem to be authoritative or definitive. However, wat has worked for one may not work for others.
Thats y it is said that always apply ur own brain and analyze ur own strengths and weaknesses before accepting any such statement.
What is a connecting phrase?@AureliusM and did you use connecting phrases? xD
I m getting a lot of negative feelings these days that I might have underperformed in the mains exam..
Whenever I read any topic now I am instantly reminded that I could have used these points in so and so answer..
I m getting more and more underconfident with each passing day...
Does anyone else also face such issues..
Or do they increasingly become more confident with the day of result getting closer..

It is natural...
Difficult to write all answers complete in all respects in the given time..
Don't worry.. same feeling is felt by the majority, whether they express it or not..
Last year my preparation was bare minimum.. didn't have any expectations.. wrote mains and forgot.. just saw the result n roll number was obviously not in the list..
The point is.. if you have performed well then being anxious is not unusual..
The term underperforming is highly subjective.. you might have written above average yet feeling bad because you feel you could have still done better..
Or you might have written 30-40 words in any answer and feeling bad about it.. only God knows the truth

Ohh. I didn't try to force them. Jahan pe sense ban rha tha wahan kiya nahi to next start kar diya. Last year mere 105 mostly is liye the kyunki I went full historical on upsc. Aur koi dimension hi nahi dala. Lag rha tha ki essay nahi history ka paper likh ke aaya hun. Ye ek topic me hua. Dusre topic me bhi aise hi kuch bahot unidimensional essay likha tha. Main khud apna paper check karta to 105 nahi deta.
