@PursuitofHappynesssince you have once read tn ncerts u ll have broad idea..i did both ncerts in 5 days.. what you need to do is,, first see pyqs .. now there are some repeating topics like buddhist art, rock art, u ll also see importance of chola, vijaynagara, gupta, mauryan, post mauryan( gandhara, amravati) , pallava architecture.... toh buss just open ncerts in laptop preferably.. just refer art n architecture pages of these kingdom read it .. write down in you shortening points immediately.. in this u ll nvr have to refer ncerts agn.. ur notes will serve the purpose.. it will also help u develop better understanding.. you can then probably write few points in any question in upsc..

Did u refer TN ncerts and RS sharma in 5 days..or u finished 11th new ncerts with our pasts wali ncerts too?

I want to be comfortable in these topics because post prelims I don't wish to spend precious days on these.. I gone through PYQs.. Feel I should not have wasted time in Vision VAMs. But anyways question are coming on themes of architecture and literature.

Thoughts on AWFG 2.0 ?

I had enrolled in the AWFG last year. I was looking for an assessment that would help me assess my 'frame of mind', not my answer script.

One of the major limitations with full length test series is the lag in the evaluation. The evaluation takes around 7-15 days. There's nothing we can do about it.

I felt difficulty in keeping the momentum going with FLTs. I was not able to assess my thought process. By the time I received my answer script, I had very faint idea of why I wrote the thing I wrote. Full length tests are good way to learn the art of answer writing. To refine it, you need some kind of booster!

AWFG came as the booster for me. The concept was wonderful. You write test and get the discussion on the same day. To top it all off, 1 hour test followed by 1-1.5 hours discussion (on the same day) doesn't take a toll on you and you're able to read through the day. You're better able to relate with your mistakes. You get to analyse your thought process since you've just finished up writing the test. This practice also aids the retention process.

Call it whatever you may, my level of trust with AWFG was such that I wrote only 3 full length tests last year. Just a week into the programme, I knew this was it. One-stop source.

The evaluation was missing in AWFG, but then I never cared about the evaluation. I do not see it as a major miss. My idea was time-bound completion of syllabus- both static and dynamic area. AWFG programme helped me achieve it. AWFG helped me recover the lost ground after a life-threatening Dengue made me stay in the hospital for 20 days- a month before the Mains. After the results, I met@Neyawn sir and told him how great the decision was to go for AWFG.

Fortunately for me and others who took the programme, some of the questions asked in mains this year were same except for the play of words. Also, a lot of themes that covered in AWFG were asked in Mains.

However, such things shouldn't be parameters to rate a programme. Let me point out the highlight of the programme-

  • Discipline and time-bound syllabus completion
  • The Discussion videos where structure and approach to answers are elaborated.
  • Thematic coverage is brilliant. It touches upon all possible areas of the syllabus from where questions can be asked.
  • Assessment on the day you write the test.

Even without the element of evaluation as it was last year, I would rate it 8/10. AWFG 2.0 has added the element of grading your answers relative to your poeers. Deducting 2 points because I wanted more number of tests. I checked that AWFG 2.0 will run a little longer than it did last year. I'm guessing there will be more tests this year.

@AzadHindFauz Would we get time to do other things while doing AWFG like optional? How much time does AWFG take up everyday (approx in no of hours). I know time varies from person to person but time taken by you would be helpful?

I have a deep investor since 2014. Only did Mutual funds. I have so far invested 6.7 lakhs from my savings at job. Current value is 11 lakhs. I am fairly satisfied. I remember one of my friends asking me to invest in crypto 2 years back. I refused but gave him 2 lakhs on loan with fixed interest. He bought crypto and promised me fixed returns.

Then crypto crashes. He panicked sold and made heavy loss. Returned me my money somehow but couldn’t pay interest. I said okay.

Last week I was in call with him. He was excited about crypto because of the high. He bought worth 2 lakhs again . Today he is not taking my call.

Also, just curious to know, what was the market price of your investment, just an year ago (time when cyclone Tauktae hit the sensex) :D

😹

I do not track the Sensex much. In fact what I do is that whenever I hear the Sensex is booming or bombing, I go and buy some or sell some . Usually buy some . Also i never sell all my units. It helps because I can see the history of every single transaction I have made. So I know if a fund is doing Rs. 212 right now, and it’s lifetime best has been 390 I can buy more if it. These all are shown in the transaction history.

I am a passive investor, past the phase where you suddenly discover that you can make money from stock market ( or other places ) - only to realise later that you better acquire some skill and that may pay you more.

I do not remember my exact portfolio value , but for some reason my portfolio value has been between 7.2 to 12 in the past two three years.

I was also fond of investment in cryptos but I invest a little money, when the cryptos fell down so couldn't make a profit from this. Then in 2017 August I took an SIP just 5000 per month and it's giving returns at 12 to 15% per annum. In long run it will be a nice decision. However a new unregulated crypto stopelonmusk has come in market these days. And my colleague got very much profit beyond our limits. Only this scenerio of profit will prevail for some more days. However it is one' s risk to invest in this. SIP is really a better investment for anyone.

I am creating a group of 5 students for daily practice of 4-5 ethics questions. Any serious candidate, can join. First come first serve.

Who is preferred:

1) given mains at-least once

2) punctual

3) already thorough with ethics theory, examples. only want practice.

>Interested student kindly message me till 22 May 6 PM. Ethics preparation majorly demand practice, with regular practice we can secure very good marks.

@nayan594 I wrote this Mains with Maths optional though failed to clear it precisely due to below par performance in Maths. True, paper is becoming more and more spontaneous but still a significant part is coming from traditional sources as we have a choice to attempt only 5/8. So my take is to practice more test papers to hone the skill of selecting right set of questions in the pressure situation. Calculation errors must be avoided(I did it for 130 marks!). Given the right temperament and practice without going for unconventional and difficult questions, decent marks could be scored. From the blog of various toppers, in general correct attempt of 400-430 may yield  300 marks which is pretty decent. So focusing on conventional sources still hold ground.

Hello folks,

I had taken an optional( Mathematics ) purely based on interest. My feel, had been, since it encompass topics taught in bachelors/masters, depth needs to be covered.

Over the time, 3 mains after, i feel i have digressed from my initial belief. I have solved past year questions, solved whatever standard preparation is required. Questions were fairly straightforward in past years, hence, i never had any doubt on my preparation.

But as UPSC has it, it constantly pushes its limits - setting questions from unasked regions, tricky ones, beyond standard books. That's when i realised, that i have learnt to solve questions, but i have not understood the basics behind it.

Following the topper's guide, i believe, gave me enough idea/methods to solve a problem. But i miss the mental picture of the concepts, the intuitions behind concepts. My faults are re-inforced when i tried to solve various questions from university / entrance exam papers related to a topic.

Given, the cyclic process of this exam, i have scanty time left to clear my concepts. I am really in a fix whether to stick or leave this optional. Now, is it only me or folks( with other optionals ) too face such dilemma ? If yes, how do you plan to cope with it ? If no, do you think, i am overthinking and needs to switch optional ?

That’s nice. I am also doing it passively. Like when I am free, I do trade in stocks, but these days during preparation, I take exit from there and come to MF. But overtime, I realise individual Stocks give more returns than MF. Also, before investing, I do thorough research. What is it in your case, intuition or information ?

I agree that returns in Crypto currencies are huge. Like when I first came to know about Bitcoins, it was trading at 12k-15k. Now the bubble has enlarged a lot.

I feel Crypto currency has indeed good future potential. Not just as investment, but for transactions as well. However, finding the right crypto currency at the moment is difficult, as too many have come into the market.
