[Results] Prelims 2020 Over - Gearing for 2021

Because of the corona virus issue? If it does not happen then worst affected will be people whose interview is stuck, around 600-700 such people I think are yet to appear for their interview.

@neyawn sir and others, what is your take?

This is the official Thread for discussion of Prelims Postponement, Please do not create new threads for the same.

And don't keep high hopes from the Supreme Court. It's not the institution that it used to be. The might of the Indian state is knocking at its door at all times, one unfavorable judgement and the gate will crash.

Judgement will be something along the lines of  - SC will give directions to the test conducting agency to maintain proper social distancing norms and brush its hand from the whole matter. Later when a bunch of students and their parents die due to covid, death which has become a mere statistic to them, will not budge an iota of their conscience. They, sitting at the top in their loft palaces are completely oblivious to the realities of India, the daily struggle that the common man has to face. They will give further directions, some scoldings to the officials for their neglect and brush their hands off. It's the family that would lose their young member, or the aspirant that may lose their guiding light in life in the forms of parents will know what the real pain is.

@Rudra12 That is not because of good efforts of the government or disease naturally slowing down. Today tests where 2.5 lakhs less than tests yesterday . Also test positivity rate in Karnataka is around 20%

and MH and AP is hovering around 15-20% which is alarming and which indicates we detect less cases due to insufficient testing.

@Rudra12 that corresponds to the less number of tests done today

@AureliusM I knew this will happen in Bihar. That's why I came back to Delhi one and half months back, when delhi was at peak, and shramik special had just started.

Patna was 400km from my home town and gaya was 380km. Now, I am Delhi, and I didn't change my center because I knew only UP, Bihar will be states that will fail miserably in this crisis. I risked and came to Delhi, but now I am in peace of mind, regarding this centre issue.

@Rudra12 Of course, people will have to lead their lives, especially when there's no end in sight. The golgappawala also has to earn. At least in Delhi the streets are buzzing, certainly not as in Feb but good enough. The argument against the exam cannot be of the pandemic as by the time prelims is conducted several such exams shall have been done. The only real hassle is transport, which I guess UPSC and sarkaar have decided to brazen out. Best course is to study for the 4th and then some more.

I am from a small town in Bihar. I changed my center from Delhi to Patna. From my town no trains are currently plying towards anywhere. I have only 1 option and that is Road transport. There are no intercity buses operating in Bihar from where I am to Patna. Only option is to book a cab at exorbitant prices and travel 220 kms to reach the test center. Further, since there are only 2 centers in whole of Bihar ie. in Patna and Gaya, both in West bihar, students from all over the state are going to flock to Patna especially, it being the capital. And Corona is raging in full heat in the state. Ideally, after exam I would have to undertake 14 days of quarantine so that my parents are safe, but my house doesn't have the luxury of having a completely separate room for 14 days. And god forbid I start showing symptoms, the health infra which was already bare minimum in the state has gone to the dogs.

This is a big gamble. The worst would be spending 10000 for cab, not clearing prelims and also getting infected. That could be the case with countless number of students.

All the best everyone!

Election in Bihar to be postponed .see what these leaders have to say for UPSC exam .

Upsc is a political issue for core hindi belt leader. They wont let is go without brewing some benefit out of this situation.

@Tejas14 Get out of your prejudice. UP and Bihar are conducting some of the highest tests in a day with numbers scaling to 90k and 75k respectively.

@Thanos_ Am talking about absolute numbers. Tests/million, in my opinion, is not a right measure as it's heavily biased towards states/countries having low population.

@RedDevilMUFC well India is world's 5th largest economy by nominalGDP. In absolute numbers we are 5th. Then is India the 5th richest country? But on per capita income basis we are 139th by nominal GDP. Rest you know what i am trying to say.

So if UP n Bihar are testing higher. UP with 20crores + popn has the biggest challenge too. Same for Bihar.

PS - Uk is at 6th place. So compare and contrast both the countries in all socio economic indicators
