[Results] Prelims 2020 Over - Gearing for 2021

Because of the corona virus issue? If it does not happen then worst affected will be people whose interview is stuck, around 600-700 such people I think are yet to appear for their interview.

@neyawn sir and others, what is your take?

This is the official Thread for discussion of Prelims Postponement, Please do not create new threads for the same.

Based on the UPSC notification allowing to change centers today, it seems very likely it'll happen on 4th October.

@Raillife If you are talking about last one year, then I won't be able to answer. If you are comfortable with vision magazine (which I'm not), then you can cover that only. I personally cover daily newspaper, 9 pm brief and civilsdaily. Apart from these I had also joined Forumias Current Affairs classes (pre+ Mains).

is it good to join 4 July batch of ca classes of dipin sir...coz my ca preparation is not so good, will he cover all the relevant issue for mains 2020

@Raillife In this clarification document they have said that they'll cover every topic which are taught to November 2019 batch students. So, you can join.

Based on the UPSC notification allowing to change centers today, it seems very likely it'll happen on 4th October.

let us analyse this from psychological perspective.
the current collective psyche is anticipating the success of covaxin.
naturally, people expect some reaction from government
the most dynamic and restless segment of society (unemployed/underemployed youth) will be at the forefront of expecting reactions.

I think UPSC decided to 'react' by opening the centre change portal. This decision of UPSC will rejuvenate the animal spirits of the youth and keeps them engaged in the times of turmoil.
This is similar to the download progress popup which we get while downloading something. unless the file is completely downloaded, we cannot get the file. but, we get the satisfaction that the file is getting downloaded by seeing the progress bar. I think UPSC is trying to make us feel 'satisfied' by giving us a download progress popup. else, we end up thinking that " iss UPSC waalon ne pura salary leke ghar me bhaite hue hain".... Now, UPSC wants to show that, even in Covid times it is working.

News is being reported about a new strain of Virus G4 which may have capability of becoming a pandemic. Let's pray that it doesn't ruin our lives.

I need to add a relevant dimension here. In the recent interaction, Hon. PM spoke about free ration upto the end of November. A fine reading between the lines suggests that the government is forecasting an impossibility to restore to normalcy till Dec-20.

In a recent interview, the developers of Covaxin spoke about availability of vaccine by the year end.

considering all these aspects, I feel that exam gets pushed beyond Oct-2020. anyhow all of this is a speculation, (the exam date is subject to the market risks, read all scheme related documents carefully. till then "remember- remember- the fourth of October")

All the best

I am an officer in Gujrat. Ek saal se gaayab hun job se for this exam. Ab hausala past hone laga he (due to uncertainty padhai nahin ho paa rahi ab)

There is dilemma

1. If joined then bachi kuchi rythem bhi toot jaayegi.

2. And if not and if exam could not happen then it would be bad decision for me strategically and economically..

Can someone suggest right course of action at this juncture??

@sulawesi  The dates of neet and jee will decide the short term plans of govt wrt exams. If they happen on time then no reason why UPSC shouldn't happen on oct 4th. Otherwise all bets are off.

I want to some material test series from a shop in ORN or Mukherjee Nagar. As metro is not working i have to order

But courier prices charged by these shops are very high now a days. They now charge 150 to 200 rupees for less than 2 kg whereas before covid it was 40-60 rupees

Can anyone suggest some material shops in old rajinder nagar or mukherjee nagar which are charging cheap courier charges???

Thnx in advance

@Bhatiss Did you place order from their website? Because their products archive there seems stuck in 2019 - isn't updated with 2020 material at all

@Agog very true. Yes will join surely. Only this year I have taken break and said myself that this year I will dedicate complete one year for the preparation (before this 2 3 month every year)...

It's all relative, I don't think anyone ditching service for one or two year to get better prospects is wrong as long as one is truly honest and dedicated to service once resumed or uplifted..
Between Thanks for responding..

I need some help. I hope someone would be able to show me a direction.

I had my interview on 20th march. However, the news of coronavirus spread was doing rounds rapidly. I am not from Delhi so while traveling to Delhi via flight from Lucknow, I somehow became extremely unwell on the eve of my interview. Anyways, after taking some medications , I was able to attend the interview. Due to a multiple of reasons, the primary being a possible contraction of corona, my interview did not go as per expectations. I was coughing , with mouth dryness and infact the board members got concerned if I am fit to sit for the interview.

I was crestfallen for several weeks post my interview (after the lockdown), and right now I have not been able to prepare for the next prelims at all, due to stress and tension. 2019 was my 5th attempt and 2020 would be my last attempt. Due to the uncertainties surrounding the entire process for this year (increasing infections, people have to travel from all over to delhi for interviews that start on the 20th, prelims in october etc.) a lot of candidates have suffered or are suffering. Hence, my doubt is that if requested, is there a chance that UPSC gives an additional attempt in lieu of the pandemic to the 2019 and 2020 candidates? I wish to take your opinions and also want to know where to send a request for this. Recently, UPSC has allowed choice of centers again and as per the notification issued, they have paid heed to the requests of candidates. So I think there is a way to reach out to them. I hope i find some answers here.  Recently, TPSC (Tripura PSC) has also given one year age extension to all state exams conducted by them. I believe 2019-2020 candidates should be given a chance as this is a once in 100 years event.

@FinalMission I know you are in a difficult situation but look at the bright side, you may clear in 2019 attempt itself. Meanwhile keep preparing if you are in the right frame of mind otherwise take a break and give it all next year. I still hope you clear 2019 without having to worry about this or next year attempt. ATB.
