[Results] Prelims 2020 Over - Gearing for 2021

Because of the corona virus issue? If it does not happen then worst affected will be people whose interview is stuck, around 600-700 such people I think are yet to appear for their interview.

@neyawn sir and others, what is your take?

This is the official Thread for discussion of Prelims Postponement, Please do not create new threads for the same.

@Neyawn @forumiasacademy Requesting you guys to provide some clarity on the start date of the SFG prog. Since today is the last day of the registration, many of us will be in a better position to decide on enrollment depending upon the period and duration of it. Thank You!

For PSIR you can get notes directly from her coaching institute. Maybe slightly expensive, but you can be sure of authenticity + follow ups. Otherwise Kumar Book Centre or Imagerunners (you can get the numbers on google) deliver throughout India. Not sure about the current Corona situation but usually they do.

@TobyStark Hey! Contrary to one comment above, I'd suggest you to get any notes available on PankajCopiers or ImageRunners, etc. There's one selling for around 1400 which IMO looks complete. You can also get a drive link off Telegram somewhere (i'll try to find it) which has few extra resources, model answers, reference texts, etc.

Bottom line is do not loose sleep over these notes, or any gaps you encounter in different versions. Ultimately you would have to make your own concise notes, compressing these 6-7 odd booklets into not more than 5-10 pages for each topic of the syllabus, and then keep that as your single reading material. You will have to google stuff you don't understand, develop a good conceptual understanding and then enrich the notes with keywords, opinions off the current affairs. And once that's done you would'nt worry about any xyz notes covering this-this topic, because what you know is already more than enough to produce a brilliant answer. Similarly, follow ups and current affairs are over overemphasised, though now topics like "post-covid world order", "rise of china" are up in importance but ultimately whatever questions will come will require you to address the whole issue holistically, which can be easily tackled with solid conceptual base + newspaper (which we already do). Ultimately in that high pressure environment of mains, you're only going to recall stuff off those few sheets which you could study repeatedly, and not those thick reading material.

@Tokyo Exam will not be cancelled. Because,

  1. Glenmark has been granted permission by DCGI to sell Favipiravir (For mild and moderate cases - It stops replication of virus at early stages and brings down the viral load in about 4 days). This medicine is an oral medication and the biggest benefit is that it can be taken at home unlike Remdesivir which has to be injected. This will reduce the need for hospitalization and therefore not burden our healthcare systems.
  2. And for severe cases where immune system is going crazy and causing organ failures, Dexamethasone (Immuno-suppressant steroid) has been found to be doing a fair job.
  3. Both the above medicines will prove to be beneficial in the management of this epidemic and help us re-open and go on with the economic/public activities, even when the cases will be rising everyday.
  4. October is still 3 months away and things will stabilize by then and we would have learnt how to carry on with life with this virus lingering around us.
  5. Do not stop studying thinking that there will be another postponement. It won't happen. Exam will be held on October 4th.

Favipiravir is for mild infection. Mild infection or asymptotic patients can also be treated by 1rs. Paracetamol or by simply doing nothing, just isolate yourself in your home for one week , drink warm water and you will recover on your own. It all depends own your immunity level.  Similarly hydroxychloroquine is another option. As for dexamethasone, it is for severe patients i.e. to save few lives atleast who are in critical condition. It reduced mortality by 1/3 in clinical trials but then again all these are no game changer. Vaccine is the game changer which will contain the spread of virus which should come by this year end. Btw CBSE exams just got cancelled. No exam can be conducted until we have a vaccine or there is a drop in new cases.

Looks like July is a washout. Just praying for a vaccine at this point for life to resume.

You think interviews will be deferred again?

You think interviews will be deferred again?

Low chances IMO. Ministries are working. UPSC bhawan will also function with/without interviews.. Will be deferred if it becomes near impossible for candidates to reach delhi.

Also for 10th, 12th exams there is pressure from public to not conduct. On the other hand interviews ka crowd is so small and i believe  most people would want to get done with the interview and move on

The way things stands currently and with these cancellations/postponements of exams/trains/jobs there seems a good possibility that 2020 will be a washout year sadly. Imo 2021 looks the safest rn.

regular trains cancelled till 12-august 2020. interviews??

Even I was worried. The announcement makes it seem like no regular trains would run but that's not the case.

It only means no new trains would run other than the special trains which are already running now. 230 special trains are running now across the country. I don't think this should affect the interviews.
