[Results] Prelims 2020 Over - Gearing for 2021

Because of the corona virus issue? If it does not happen then worst affected will be people whose interview is stuck, around 600-700 such people I think are yet to appear for their interview.

@neyawn sir and others, what is your take?

This is the official Thread for discussion of Prelims Postponement, Please do not create new threads for the same.

Consider hypothetical situation - Corona situation become worse in October but UPSC / government still goes ahead and conduct the exam then will you appear or not ?

@Agyeya Contact google customer care. They help in recovering permanently deleted files from gdrive, they might help you recover this email too.

@Sherkhan1428 its not narrow one, you did not get my point. suppose next year you are AiR 1 and i did not appear and khuda na khasta some body gets infected bkoz my bro goining everyday out for job. then will i say him that kaas tm job chor die hote bht narrow  ho u are too insensitive. my point is simple khuda na kisi ek v jaan ko kuch ho but staying home only me other members risking their lives is not at all insensitive. how can i be sensitive?
wearing masks doing handwash several times ,upsc will take care of social distancing when i go out on beautiful day 4th October.  if everybody does this not a single guy will be infected. dont you agree? if the world becomes really sensitive then this virus would be now showing declining trends.

@Buddhijeevi Parsad this is lame logic for this i have to explain again how staying home without going out is equally riskiest as you appear for upsc cse

@Dead Man yes surely if i had to die i will die without going out too. 45000 cases per day now means 1 lakh cases per day in oct. i would not be safe untill i live on some private island. which i really cant afford

@Neyawn  @goldberry @root Can we just close this thread its distracting plus people here are commenting unnecessarily, UPSC is the final authority to decide the dates meanwhile our only job is to prepare. No one can predict at this point whether exam can be conducted . Plus we are sane enough to know the pros and cons of the exam being conducted in October.

@skirti_0826946 Begaani shaadi me abdulah deewana!! Interesting.
Democracy hai, jeeyo aur jeene do. Nobody is tagging you here daily ki yaar check my new comment or flooding you with texts ki what's your take about exam happening or not. Why come here and check daily?
Forum also does not have a notifications option except tagging then why it is bothering you?
Your job is only to prepare but even then you discuss probable questions no? Likewise.
The presence of this thread does not encroach upon your rights in any way. Let's not bring arbitrariness into our democratic setup.
Your argument is as sane as asking all fast food joints in your vicinity to close just because you are on a diet! :P
peace.

regular trains are not running now till aug 12 and cases are 40k plus everyday . So u all can guess numbers around oct..   exams generally not supposed to happen in such scenario .  It does nt cost nythng for govt if cse pre does nt happen in time . But if they do govt ll have to stand up to a lot of challenges be it political or logistical ..  If they do conduct exam nyway i ll be glad if it happens in stadiums like they did in S. korea ( weather can be a issue though ) ...  make rule like mask and face shield mandatory ..  double the number of centers . adding some more cities in option ( i dont think it ll happen ) ..

@curiouscse In my opinion we must pin a detailed response on the top of this thread . That would be addressed to such brave hearts who proudly say “ mere liye career life se zyada important hai” . This is very dangerous mentality , it’s sad enough that you think so and even worse when you extrapolate it to include others too.
Because this same mentality drives people to end their lives because they can’t face failures. Although I was reluctant to even read further when I read this line of yours . But here I am responding just because once in while I read many over enthusiastic frenzied souls suggesting people to grow some balls or don’t appear if you feel it’s risky.
1. Many people over here say that if you can go out to buy essentials you can appear in the exam. You took it even further saying your “dad and bro“ are going to office daily hence why should we back off. Let me try answering this adrenaline pumped curiosity of yours.
There are certain necessary services like banking , police and health which cannot be put to halt under any circumstances. I guess your dad and bro must belong to any such necessary service and hence they must fullfill their duty. I respect their effort . Yes people have been going out for their respective jobs but it’s their personal choice and schools , private offices and other all unnecessary things have either resorted to work from home or are temporarily shut. No one is taking an escapist route here but what’s the hurry for 4th October. Your career my friend is not tantamount to a necessity like banking , health and police.
2. I had said earlier and I repeat now what’s the hurry if this exam gets delayed by a few more months . I feel its like some people have mugged up so much preparing for the exam that their intestines are unable to bear the pressure and they wish to be relieved soon .
3. Appearing for this exam is not like going to everyday job, Aspirants for this exam come from all kinds of socio economic backgrounds , and even a huge sate like Uttar Pradesh has handful of major cities as centres. People need to arrange travel and stay at their allocated cities .
Here comes the fun fact, Uttar Pradesh administration has allowed asymptotic patients to stay at homes and they even have the options of staying in hotels where govt will subsidise their expenses. Yesterday at a hotel in my city an asymptotic patients developed serious breathing problems , he started shouting for help but the staff was reluctant due to fear . They dialled for ambulance and finally the patient was transferred to a hospital . The staff who were already working in fear , got even more scared seeing such situation. Majority of the staff absconded to their home fearing their lives. Anyways you see this is the condition of hotels in Uttar Pradesh today. How do you think an aspirant will arrange for his overnight stay in such conditions. The travel is restricted and risky and is getting worse every day. All the aspirants do not have the privilege of personal transport. Many come from poor and rural backgrounds especially a majority of Hindi medium aspirants , A spate of students suffer from Asthma, diabetes and other health issues .
As you suggest people who are scared to not appear. I must tell you not everybody has the liberty of time to wait for next year’s upsc. This may be due to financial or personal reasons. This exam has limited number of attempts and very fierce competition. Every serious aspirant want to get it done in this very attempt. But the exam should ideally be conducted when the situation normalises to an extent . I know many of you are going to tear this last line down by your wisdom tooth sharpened by anxiety .

But Until then let’s work hard and let’s adjust ourselves as per the demand of the situation.

I have no doubt that prelims would be conducted on 4th Oct , govt has accepted that coronavirus is going to stay and there is no point in delaying things , I appeared for interview and medical examination and sharing some experience (RML hospital) :

1) During our medical examination there was no separate arrangement for UPSC students , we were not provided with even masks or face-shields had to get one our own

2)  No social distancing / nothing made to ensure that you stay away from covid+ people infact someone thought I am a doctor and was showing his covid+ result to me !

For those who are thinking what will happen if we contract covid during pre , just think the magnitude of risk dopt and upsc have allowed for students who appeared for interview and for pre 2020 upsc has even allowed change in centres!

Dont compare it with JEE/NEET those are exams for 17/18 year olds UPSC exams are for adults who are required to understand what is physical distancing and how to follow , with proper social distancing , centre change and safety measures exams will be conducted , if you are scared feel free to be absent on the day of exam (this is what dopt will say) . So buckle up and keep preparing !

PS: I am also very much afraid of giving exams/interview/medical in current time and a slight discomfort in chest/cough alarms me , I am just hoping I have not been infected

@Kira0705 That was only for the medical right. Could you plz describe the whole process of interview- all arrangements and precautions that were in place from entry to exit.
And wasn't it  in the news that dopt has decided that candidates for interview can get medical done in states/uts. Maybe they knew that it would be tough for such arrangements in medical process as hospitals are  overloaded.

  • at UPSC bhawan the preparations were good , we were provided a kit with mask and gloves , social distancing followed , only for checking your face they asked us to remove masks
  • I am pretty sure UPSC would make similar levels of preparations for pre as well and would conduct on 4th oct , some panel members are asking candidates to remove mask and speak so even they are not afraid now
And wasn't it  in the news that dopt has decided that candidates for interview can get medical done in states/uts. Maybe they knew that it would be tough for such arrangements in medical process as hospitals are  overloaded.
  • Only for candidates whose interview was done in march but no medical was done are allowed (150 odd) rest 630 have to undergo medical in delhi hospitals which are covid designated

Key idea is upsc aspirants are matured enough to understand the risk and follow instructions so take precautions and proceed
