Why in the News?
The Indian Prime Minister will attend the World Climate Action Summit (WCAS) in Dubai during the 28th Conference of Parties (CoP-28).
What is the World Climate Action Summit (WCAS) 2023?

What is the Conference of Parties (CoP)?
What are India’s updated climate targets?
At COP26 held at Glasgow, Scotland in 2021, India presented the following five targets called Panchamrit as part of India’s climate action:
1) At least 500GW of energy installations by 2030 to be from non-fossil sources.
2) 50 per cent of its energy requirements from renewable energy by 2030.
3) Reduction of total projected carbon emissions by one billion tonnes from now to 2030.
4) Reducing the carbon intensity of the economy by 45 per cent by 2030, over 2005 levels.
5) Achieving the target of Net Zero emissions by 2070.
Climate change under G20’s New Delhi Declaration?
1) The New Delhi Declaration was adopted at the 18th G20 Summit held in New Delhi in 2023, under India’s Presidency.
2) The countries committed to “tripling” installed renewable energy capacity sources by 2030.
