1.The Home Ministry launched separate portals to register online complaint for women’s and child safety.

  1. The portal ‘cybercrime.gov.in’ and ‘National Database on Sexual Offenders (NDSO)’ is launched

A) About gov.in

  • It is a user friendly portal, it will receive online complaints regarding child pornography, child sexual abuse content and sexually explicit material depicting rape or gang rape can be registered
  • Will not reveal the identity of complainants.
  • Portal will aid the victims and complainants and help the civil society organisations and responsible citizens to report complaints
  • Complainants can upload the objectionable content to assist investigation agencies concerned, so that they can track progress using their mobile number.
  • The National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) will proactively identify such objectionable content and take up with intermediaries for its removal.

B  About National Database on Sexual Offenders (NDSO)

  • It is a central database of sexual offenders in the country which will be maintained by the National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB).
  • The database is accessible only to the law enforcement agencies for investigation and monitoring purpose.
  • The database has 4.4 lakh offender details convicted under charges of rape, gang rape, POCSO and eve teasing.
