  1. The Attukal Pongala has begun in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. The Attukal Pongala festival is held annually in Attukal Bhagvati Temple in Thiruvananthapuram. The temple is popularly known as the “Women Sabarimala”.
  2. Pongala, which means ‘to boil over’, is the ritual in which women prepare sweet payasam and offer it the main deity ‘Bhagavathy’, also referred to as ‘Attukalamma’. The festival is a 10 days festival which falls during Malayalam month of Kumbham.
  3. In 2009, the Attukal Pongala festival entered the Guinness Book of Records as the largest gathering of women.
