News: The Union Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways has said that the Chennai-Vladivostok Eastern Maritime Corridor has become operational and is carrying oil, food, and machines.
1. The Chennai-Vladivostok Eastern Maritime Corridor is a sea route connecting Indian port of Chennai and Russian port of Vladivostok.
2. The corridor aims to enhance economic ties between India and Russia, facilitate energy trade and boost regional connectivity.
3. The trade route also helps to improve India’s trade and transport links with Southeast Asia and Far East countries like China, Japan.
4. The maritime corridor covers a distance of nearly 5,600 nautical miles.
5. It reduces the time required to transport cargo between India and Far East Russia by up to 16 days and reduces the distance by up to 40%.
