The Focus Article of EPIC September 2024 covers India-Ukraine Relationship and India’s Role in Ending the Russia-Ukraine Crisis. Since the Russia-Ukraine war began in February 2022, India has tried to maintain a delicate balance between its historic closeness with Russia and the growing warmth with the West. In continuation of this policy, the PM of India recently visited Ukraine (the first by an Indian PM), just a month after his visit to Russia. So far, India has been successful in executing this balance. However, as the war prolongs and the fears of escalations rise, India too will feel the heat. Hence, it is pragmatic for India to look at the ways to find a diplomatic solution to this war. The West too has shown inclination towards India playing a bigger role in the efforts to end the war. However, this is fraught with its own challenges and Indian diplomacy has to tread with care, as it has done till now.
