Foreign Institutional Investment (FII)

Foreign institutional investment is portfolio investment in the stock market by buying shares and debentures in another country by foreign institutions like mutual funds, insurance and pension funds etc.

These are registered with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI).

FII is short term investments and only includes the transfer of funds. The objective is to make quick money. It is also called hot money or fly by night money.
