About: The National Sample Survey (NSS) which came into existence in the year 1950, is a multi-subject integrated continuing sample survey programme launched for
collection of data on the various aspects of the national economy required by different
agencies of the Government, both Central and States.
Detail: The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MOSPI) has two wings, one relating to Statistics and the other Programme Implementation. The Statistics Wing called the National Statistical Office (NSO) consists of the Central Statistical Office (CSO), the Computer center and the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO). NSSO comes under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation.
