News: India has expelled six Canadian diplomats and strongly rejected Canada’s assertion that it had shared credible evidence of Indian involvement in the killing of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. While Canada has briefed Five Eyes partners on the status of the probe.

1. Five Eyes Intelligence Sharing Alliance: It is a multilateral intelligence sharing alliance comprising five countries: Australia, Canada, New Zealand, United Kingdom and United States.

2. It primarily focuses on signals intelligence (SIGINT) and aims to gather, analyse and share intelligence related to national security threats.

3. Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (QUAD): It is a strategic diplomatic partnership comprising of Australia, India, Japan and United States.

4. A key objective of QUAD is to promote peace, progress, stability in the Indo-Pacific region.

5. Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, 1961: It is a fundamental treaty that outlines the framework for diplomatic relations between independent states.

6. This convention provides for diplomatic immunity, inviolability of diplomatic missions, protection of diplomatic communication, exemption from taxation for diplomatic missions.
