World faces ‘staggering’ obesity challenge: study

News:

  1. Researcher at the European Congress on Obesity has forecasted that global population will obese in coming years.

Important Facts:

  1. The report stated that 22% of people in the world will be obese by 2045 compare to 14% last year.
  2. After 27 years almost a quarter of the global population will be obese.
  3. One in eight people have type 2 diabetes (a form of the disease that generally hits in adulthood as a result of being overweight)
  4. The researchers from U.S. found obesity will increase from 39% of the population in 2017 to 55% in 2045, and diabetes from 14% to 18%.
  5. In Britain, the proportion will swell from 32% to 48% and the percentage of diabetes rising from 10.2% to 12.6%.
  6. The researcher have divided the population of each country into age groups, and body mass index (BMI)

Note: BMI is a ratio of height to weight used to divide people into low- to high-risk categories for developing heart disease, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes and certain cancers.

  1. As per population data across the world, each country is different based on unique genetic, social and environmental conditions.
