  • Shape the climate of upper Gangetic plains such as (Rainfall, Temperature, Biodiversity etc.)
  • It checks the spread of Indian Desert (Thar) towards Eastern Rajasthan, Indo Gangetic plain, Haryana and Western UP.
  • Plays an important role in recharging ground water.
  • Maintaining ecological balances.
  1. Threat to Aravali:
  • Regulation issues: Haryana Government has been ambiguous about declaring entire area as Aravalli Notified Forest. This has led to uninhibited exploitation in the region.
  • Illegal Mining: Mining of stones continues despite the ban by Supreme Court in 2002.
  • Lack of Research: No comprehensive study has been conducted to check causes of degradation.
  1. Studies conducted by Wildlife Institute of India (WWI) has reported, that sand dunes inching closer to Delhi-NCR region.
