News: The Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs recently introduced the Cities Coalition for Circularity (C-3).

About Cities Coalition for Circularity (C-3) 

  • It is a newly launched multi-nation alliance aimed at fostering city-to-city collaboration, knowledge exchange, and partnerships with the private sector to advance sustainable urban development.
  • It was Launched on March 3, 2025, at the 12th Regional 3R and Circular Economy Forum in Asia and the Pacific in Jaipur, India.
  • This initiative underscores India’s commitment to promoting the principles of reduce, reuse, and recycle (3R) as well as the broader circular economy.
  • Objectives of C-3:
    • Promoting Sustainable Urban Development – Encourage cities to adopt circular economy practices to enhance resource efficiency and waste management.
    • Facilitating Knowledge Sharing – Establish a platform for policymakers, researchers, and industry leaders to exchange best practices.
    • Encouraging Private Sector Participation – Foster collaboration with businesses to develop innovative solutions for sustainable waste management.
    • Enhancing Regional and Global Cooperation – Enable cross-border partnerships to tackle common environmental and urban development challenges.

About 12th Regional 3R and Circular Economy Forum in Asia and the Pacific

  • The 12th Regional 3R and Circular Economy Forum in Asia and the Pacific was inaugurated in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India.
  • Organized by: Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (India), United Nations Centre for Regional Development (UNCRD), and Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES).
  • Supported by: United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), Japan’s Ministry of Environment, and various other international and regional organizations.
  • The forum will endorse the Jaipur Declaration (2025-2034), a voluntary and non-political commitment aimed at shaping the next decade of initiatives for resource efficiency and sustainable urban development.
