  • India-Malaysia joint military exercise ‘Harimau Shakti-2022’

    India – Malaysia joint military Exercise “Harimau Shakti -2022” has commenced at Pulai, Kluang, Malaysia.

    What is Exercise Harimau Shakti?

    Exercise Harimau Shakti is a joint annual military training exercise between India and Malaysia.

    The exercise has been conducted since 2012.

    Significance: The exercise will enhance the level of defence cooperation between the Indian Army and the Malaysian Army which in turn will further foster the bilateral relations between the two nations.

    What are the other exercises between India and Malaysia?

    Exercise Udarashakti: It is a bilateral air force exercise between India and Malaysia.

  • ‘Austra Hind-22’: India-Australia joint military exercise

    What is the News?

    The Bilateral Training Exercise “AUSTRA HIND 22” between contingents of the Indian Army and the Australian Army is scheduled to take place at Mahajan Field Firing Ranges (Rajasthan).

    What is Exercise AUSTRA HIND 22?

    Exercise AUSTRA HIND is a bilateral training exercise between the Indian Army and the Australian Army.

    Aim: To build positive military relations, imbibe each other’s best practices and promote the ability to operate together while undertaking multi-domain operations in Semi deserts terrain under a UN peace enforcement mandate.

    Significance: This is the first exercise in the series of Austra Hind with the participation of all arms and services contingent from both armies.

    What are the other exercises between India and Australia?

    Exercise Pitch Black: It is a biennial multilateral air combat exercise hosted by the Royal Australian Air Force(RAAF) since 1981. The Indian Air Force had taken part in the exercise for the first time in 2018.

    AUSINDEX: It is a biennial bilateral maritime exercise between the Indian Navy and Royal Australian Navy(RAN). The first edition of the exercise took place in 2015.

  • Exercise Naseem-Al-Bahr

    What is the News?

    The Indian Navy’s guided missile stealth frigate, INS Trikand, offshore patrol vessel, INS Sumitra, and Maritime Patrol Aircraft(MPA) Dornier participated in the 13th Edition of the Exercise ‘Naseem Al Bahr’(Sea Breeze).

    What is Exercise Naseem Al Bahr?

    Exercise Naseem-Al-Bahr is a bilateral naval exercise between the Indian Navy(IN) and the Royal Navy of Oman(RNO).

    The exercise had three phases:

    Harbour phase: It included professional interactions between IN and RNO operations teams and friendly sports fixtures between the two navies. 

    Sea phase: It included tactical maritime exercises involving surface action, air defense, maritime surveillance and interdiction/VBSS.  

    Debrief: It was the last phase of the exercise. This was conducted at the RNO Naval Base.

    Significance: The first naval exercise between the two countries was conducted in 1993. This year marks 30 years of Indian and Omanese bilateral naval exercises.

    What are the other exercises between India and Oman?

    Exercise Al-Najah: It is an army exercise conducted between India and Oman.

    Exercise Eastern Bridge: It is an Air Force exercise that is held between India and Oman.

  • India Air Force conducting HADR Exercise Samanvay 2022

    What is the News?

    The Indian Air Force is conducting the Annual Joint Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief(HADR) Exercise ‘Samanvay 2022’ at Air Force Station Agra.

    The exercise will see participation by representatives from the Association of Southeast Nations (ASEAN) countries as well.

    What is Exercise Samanvay?

    Conducted by: Indian Air Force

    Purpose: It is an Annual Joint Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief(HADR) Exercise.

    Aim: To assess the efficacy of institutional Disaster Management structures and contingency measures.

    – To provide a unique platform for the exchange of domain knowledge, experience and best practices with the participating ASEAN member countries. 

    The exercise will consist of: Seminar on Disaster Management, a Multi-Agency Exerciseinvolving static and flying displays of various HADR assets and a Table Top Exercise.  

    Significance: The exercise will promote a synergistic approach towards HADR by various national and regional stakeholders involved in Disaster Management including the Civil Administration, the Armed Forces, NDMA, NIDM, NDRF, DRDO, BRO, IMD, NRS and INCOIS.

  • MALABAR 22 Culminates

    What is the News?

    The 26th edition of the multinational maritime exercise MALABAR culminated in the seas off Japan.

    This edition also marked the 30th anniversary of the exercise and was hosted by the JMSDF (Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force).

    About Malabar Exercise

    Exercise Malabar began in 1992 as a bilateral exercise featuring the maritime forces of the US and India. 

    In 2014, the en­try of the Japan Navy made it a trilateral exercise. In 2020, the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) also joined Malabar making it a quadrilateral exercise.

    What does the Malabar exercise include?

    The exercise includes simulated war games and combat manoeuvres.

    It also includes complex exercises including anti-surface, anti-air and anti-submarine warfare drills. These combat drills will enhance synergy and mutual understanding among the four navies.

    Apart from drills, the bilateral logistics support agreements between the participating countries were validated during this edition of the exercise.

    How does China view the Malabar exercise?

    China views Malabar as an anti-China group formed by a “concert of democracies”.

  • India-US joint military exercise ‘Yudh Abhyas’ to commence in Uttarakhand

    What is the News?

    The 18th edition of Indo – US joint training exercise “YUDH ABHYAS 22” is scheduled to be conducted in Uttarakhand.

    What is Exercise YUDH ABHYAS?

    Exercise YUDH ABHYAS is a military exercise between India and the US.

    Aim: To enhance understanding, cooperation and interoperability between the armies of India and the US with a number of complex drills being planned.

    Started in: The exercise was started in 2004 under the US Army Pacific Partnership Program.

    The exercise is hosted alternately between both countries.

    What are the other exercises between India and the US?

    Exercise Tiger Triumph: It is a tri-service military exercise between India and the US.

    Exercise Vajra Prahar: It is a Special Forces joint military training exercise. It has been conducted alternately in India and the US since 2010.

    Exercise Cope India: It is a series of bilateral Air Force exercises between India and the United States.

  • EXERCISE GARUDA – VII AT AIR FORCE STATION JODHPUR

    What is the News?

    Indian Air Force(IAF) and French Air and Space Force(FASF) are participating in a bilateral exercise named ‘Garuda VIl’ at Air Force Station Jodhpur. 

    About Exercise Garuda

    Exercise Garuda is a bilateral exercise between the Indian and French Air Force.

    The first edition of the exercise was held in 2003. This is the seventh edition of the bilateral exercise.

    Aim: To provide a platform for both countries to enhance operational capability and interoperability, while also sharing best practices.

    Other exercises between India and France

    Exercise SHAKTI: It is a biennial military exercise conducted between India and France. It was first conducted in the year 2011.

    Exercise Varuna: It is a bilateral naval exercise between India and France. ·

    Exercise La Pérouse: It is a multilateral maritime exercise led by the French Navy. The Indian Navy participated in this exercise for the first time in 2021.

  • INS TARKASH PARTICIPATES IN IBSAMAR VII

    What is the News?

    The 7th edition of IBSAMAR(IBSAMAR VII) was held at Port Gqeberha (also known as Port Elizabeth), South Africa.

    About IBSAMAR

    It is a joint multinational maritime exercise, among the Indian, Brazilian and South Africa navies.

    Objective: Strengthening maritime relations, promoting joint operational military training, combating maritime crimes, securing Sea Lines of Communication and enhancing interoperability to pursue common evolutions at sea.

    The previous edition of IBSAMAR (IBSAMAR VI) was conducted in South Africa in 2018. The fifth edition of IBSAMAR was conducted in Goa in 2016.

    What is IBSA?

    It is a unique Forum that brings together India, Brazil and South Africa. The grouping was formalized and named the IBSA Dialogue Forum when the Foreign Ministers of the three countries met in Brasilia in 2003 and issued the Brasilia Declaration.

  • JATE Manesar Anti-terror 2022: Pakistan to take part in closing ceremony of SCO anti-terror exercise hosted by India

    What is the News?

    Pakistan has been invited to the closing ceremony of the ongoing Joint Anti-Terror Exercise (JATE) within the ambit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) being hosted by India.

    About JATE Manesar Anti-terror 2022

    JATE is an annual counter-terrorist exercise held within the framework of the SCO RATS. The National Security Guard (NSG) is hosting the multinational JATE “Manesar Anti-Terror 2022”, under the framework of the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (RATS).

    The exercise is aimed at exchanging expertise, best practices and building synergy between the Counterterrorism Forces of the SCO RATS member countries. This is to enhance capabilities for conducting anti-terrorist operations and countering other security threats collectively.

    The present one is stage 2 of the exercise. Stage 1 of the Exercise was conducted in July-August by the National Counterterrorist Forces of SCO Member Countries in their respective territories.

     

     

  • Exercise Kakadu: Indian Navy’s INS Satpura Reaches Australia For Multinational Exercise

    What is the News?

    INS Satpura and a maritime patrol aircraft of the Indian Navy have reached Australia to take part in the multinational Exercise Kakadu-2022.

    What is Exercise Kakadu?

    Exercise Kakadu is a multinational maritime exercise hosted by the Royal Australian Navy.

    The exercise derives its name from Kakadu National Park, which is a protected area in the Northern Territory of Australia.

    Aim: To foster and strengthen effective security and humanitarian partnerships across the Indo-Pacific region through a series of training and engagement activities.

    Participating Countries: Around 14 countries are participating in the exercise including India.

    Note: Indian Air Force(IAF) has recently also participated in Exercise Pitch Black. It is a multinational biennial exercise hosted by the Australian Air Force.
