- The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has launched the second edition of Startup Ranking for 2019. DPIIT is responsible for formulation and implementation of promotional and developmental measures for growth of the industrial sector in India.
- The Startup ranking exercise aims to evaluate measures taken by states and union territories for establishing a robust ecosystem for supporting start-ups. It also seeks to encourage States and UTs to identify, learn and replicate good practices from each other.
- The Ranking Framework 2019 comprises 7 pillars and 30 action points. The 7 pillars seeks to assess states/UTs efforts across a) institutional support, b) simplifying regulations, c) easing public procurement, d) incubation support, e) seed funding support, f) venture funding support and g) awareness and outreach related activities.
- In Start-up Ranking 2018, Gujarat emerged as Best Performer. Karnataka, Kerala, Odisha, and Rajasthan were top performers.
