1) Analyze the strategic significance of the India-France partnership in the current global geopolitical context. Also, discuss the challenges and opportunities in this bilateral relationship.
2) Critically examine the role of the Basic Structure Doctrine in safeguarding Indian democracy. Discuss its implications on the balance of power between the Judiciary and the Legislature.





1. The French president Immanuel Macron is invited as the chief guest of 75th republic day of India reflecting the cordial relation between the nations.
Strategic significance of India – France relationship
i. Geostrategic significance – The shift from Atlantic to Indo Pacific theatre creates great opportunity for both the nations which have solid presence in the region
ii. Establishing Rules based order – As champions of democracy, both nations are committed to maintaining perpetual peace and development in times of increased Chineese invasions as seen in Nine dash line concept.
iii. Economic significance – the G20 members are pivotal in establishing Asia-Middle East- Africa-Europe economic corridor amidst tensions in Sinai peninsula
Challenges in bilateral relationship:
i. Low economic interdependence – Low trade volume and value when compared to Quad members
ii. India’s increasing priority to Quad, where Australia-France relation got strained.
Opportunities in the relationship
i. Long history of unselfish relation where the relation is unaffected in case of internal decisions
ii. Recently concluded agreement on migration providing 5 years extended stay at France for Indian individuals
iii. Uncompromised attitude towards terrorism
India – France relation is often described as a model relation in international sphere. The potential of the relations is slowly unfurling such that the legacy of the great revolution and a great civilisation guides the new world
