- Union Health Minister has inaugurated a state-of-the-art laboratory complex at the National Centre for Disease Control(NCDC) in a bid to give impetus to laboratory diagnosis of emerging diseases of public health importance.
- The Minister said that NCDC has contributed phenomenally in elimination and eradication of several diseases of public health importance such as smallpox, polio, guinea-worm and yaws.
- The National Centre for Disease Control(NCDC) is an institute under the Indian Directorate General of Health Services,Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
- NCDC was established in July 1963 for research in epidemiology and control of communicable diseases.It was previously known as National Institute of Communicable Diseases(NICD).
