Union Health Minister has inaugurated a state-of-the-art laboratory complex at the National Centre for Disease Control(NCDC) in a bid to give impetus to laboratory diagnosis of emerging diseases of public health importance.
The Minister said that NCDC has contributed phenomenally in elimination and eradication of several diseases of public health importance such as smallpox, polio, guinea-worm and yaws.
The National Centre for Disease Control(NCDC) is an institute under the Indian Directorate General of Health Services,Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
NCDC was established in July 1963 for research in epidemiology and control of communicable diseases.It was previously known as National Institute of Communicable Diseases(NICD).
