  • CALM-Brain is a first-of-its-kind open-source digital repository on brain structure and function in psychiatric disorders.
  • Developed by: It has been developed by the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS) and the National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS) – TIFR under the Rohini Nilekani Centre for Brain and Mind (CBM).
  • Objective: The main objective is to identify biomarkers, understand disease progression, and study treatment responses for better clinical outcomes.

    • Comprehensive data coverage: The repository integrates clinical, neuro-imaging, behavioural, and genetic datasets.
      • It covers major disorders such as addiction, bipolar disorder, dementia, obsessive compulsive disorder, and schizophrenia.
    • Large dataset base: It includes data from over 2,000 individuals across 900 families.
      • This enables comparison between affected and unaffected individuals for better analysis.
    • Biorepository linkage: The repository is linked with a stem cell biobank.
      • This supports research on the biological basis and origins of psychiatric disorders.
    • Open-source platform: The database will be available as an open-source platform for clinicians and researchers.
