News: India will host the Fourth India-Africa Forum Summit in May-end 2026, after a gap of more than a decade.
About India-Africa Forum Summit (IAFS) 2026
- It is an official institutional platform for African-Indian relations and a high-level consultative mechanism between the Government of India and the member states of the African Union.
- Established: The IAFS was established in 2008.
- Summit History:
- 2008 (New Delhi): It was the inaugural meeting with 14 African countries and focused on rising oil and food prices.
- 2011 (Addis Ababa): It expanded to 15 African nations and focused on infrastructure development.
- 2015 (New Delhi): It saw participation from all 54 African nations and marked a major diplomatic outreach.
- Purpose: It aims to widen and deepen mutual cooperation, support Africa in health, education, and human resource development, and promote investment and industrial partnerships.
- Key Functions:
- Development Assistance: It supports Africa’s development through concessional Lines of Credit, capacity-building programmes, infrastructure projects, and scholarships for African students.
- Economic Cooperation: It promotes trade and investment across sectors like infrastructure, agriculture, healthcare, and telecommunications, leading to economic growth and job creation.
- Human Resource Development: It strengthens education and skills through initiatives like telemedicine, e-learning, and scholarships, helping build long-term capacity.
- South-South Cooperation: It promotes solidarity among developing countries and supports a collective voice for equitable global governance and institutional reforms.
About India-Africa Forum Summit (IAFS) 2026
- It is the fourth summit to strengthen India-Africa cooperation across multiple sectors.
- Location: It will be held in New Delhi, India.
- Scheduled: It is scheduled for May-end 2026.
- Key Aspects:
- Strategic Agenda: It will focus on development initiatives, education, capacity building, diplomatic expansion, and defense cooperation.
