News: The Emission Gap Report warned that the climate targets set by the Paris Agreement would be breached, unless the countries dramatically scale up their climate actions to reduce global emissions in two years.

1. Emission Gap Report: It assesses the gap between the current green house gas emissions and the levels needed to achieve the climate targets.

2. It covers elements like current emission trends, future projections, policy recommendations, regional and sectoral insights,

3. It is released annually by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

4. The Emission Gap Report 2024 mentions that even in the most optimistic scenario countries could reduce global greenhouse emissions by only 10% by 2030 to 2019 levels, whereas the bare minimum requirement to keep the 1.5-degree target in sight was 42% reduction.

5. The report also highlighted the need to massively invest in emission reductions in order to bridge the emission gap.
