Explanation: India has requested for an early delivery of Meteor air-to-air missiles from France. These missiles will provide India the power to take on US supplied AMRAAM missiles possessed by the Pakistan Air Force. The Meteor missiles are air-to-air missiles with a range of 150 km and no escape zone of 60 km. This no escape zone is the largest in the world according to its manufacturers. These missiles are to be attached to the Rafale jets. With increasing tensions between India and Pakistan, India is requesting for an early delivery

Explanation: The Special Protection Group is the highest security that was set up in 1985 to protect the Prime Minister of India. It was established after the assassination of PM Indira Gandhi by her own bodyguards in 1984. Though the act was constituted to provide security cover to the Prime Minister, it was amended in 1991 to provide security cover to former PMs.

SPG (Amendment) Bill, 2019: Key Features
• The SPG (Amendment) Bill, 2019 amends the SPG Act and states that the SPG security will be provided to the Prime Minister and his immediate family members living with him at his official residence.
• The bill also states that the SPG security will be provided to former Prime Minister and his immediate family members, who reside with him at the officially allotted residence for 5 years from the date he ceases to hold the office.
• The SPG (Amendment) Bill, 2019 amends the SPG act’s condition to continue the SPG cover of the PM’s immediate family members if the level of perceived threat is high in case of withdrawal of the SPG cover to the former Prime Minister.
• The bill states that if the SPG cover is withdrawn from a former Prime Minister, it shall also stand withdrawn from his immediate family members. This means that in case of death of an ex-PM dies, the SPG security would be withdrawn from his immediate family members.
• Under the bill’s provisions, only those family members will be provided with SPG security cover, who stay with the PM or former PM at the allotted residence.

Explanation: The Mumbai Central Terminus of Western Railway has been certified as India’s first ‘Eat Right Station’ with a 4-Star rating awarded by Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), as a part of ‘Eat Right India’ movement launched in 2018. Explanation: Chief Minister of Odisha has launched a smart learning phone application ‘MadhuApp’ for school children. This app is aims to help school students in learning their lessons via videos and tutorials.
The app named after ‘Utkal Gourab’ Madhusudan Das, the first graduate and advocate of Odisha. The app has been developed by Ganjam district administration in accordance with the 5T action plan of state government. The 5T stands for Technology, Transparency, Teamwork, Transformation and Time.
The app is equipped with video lectures and exercises in Odia language by leading subject experts and educationists. In 1st phase, the study material has been created for Mathematics and Science Subjects of classes V to Vlll.

Explanation: The Chief of Indian Air Force (IAF) Air Chief Marshal Rakesh Kumar Singh Bhadauria is set to participate in Pacific Air Chiefs Symposium 2019 (PACS 2019) being held at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam in Hawaii (a state of USA). Theme for 2019’s symposium is: ‘A Collaborative Approach to Regional Security’.
About Pacific Air Chiefs’ Symposium 2019 (PACS 2019)
Objective: To further strengthen existing cooperation between Air Forces of participating countries and also to pave way for enhanced interaction in future.
Participants: United States of America is the host country for symposium. Air Chiefs from across the Indo-Pacific region are participating in the conference. In addition to USA, Air Chiefs from 20 countries are present at Symposium.
The participants will provide perspectives on common challenges faced as well as on shared mutual interests while focusing on relevant topics such as Domain Awareness, Regional Security, Multi-Domain Awareness, Interoperability and Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR). The symposium will also entail discourse and discussions on combined effort required to maintain peace and security within Pacific region.
India at PACS 2019: Participation of Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria in PACS 2019 will provide impetus towards articulating and highlighting common regional challenges. It would also reaffirm India’s commitment to peace, prosperity, stability and security in Indo-Pacific region.
