Losar festival, which has its origin in the 15th century, celebrates the Ladakhi or Tibetan New Year. It is said to last 15 days, but the first 3 days are the most important ones. It is mainly celebrated over a period of 3 days in late January or February, according to the Tibetan calendar. Humorous events such as the dance of the deer and the amusing battles between the King and his various ministers are highlights of this festival. Losar is characterized especially by dancing, music, and a general spirit of merrymaking. The festivities are spread over two weeks during the eleventh month of the Buddhist year, which can mean November, December, January or February. The dates and the location change every year
As we all know UPSC is responsible for recruiting individuals for top positions in govt agencies. But I feel UPSC has some greater role. It also add new dimensions to the thought process of individual making them a responsible citizen. No matter whether u get selected or not. After all this is done u will always stand out in the crowd with the knowledge base that u have created by working hard day and night all alone. At last u will definitely b a transformed person with a postive outlook.
Totally agreed…. I got a snap of memory when one of my junior fellow started to have lunch with us without any feelings of different religion and caste. He has really been transformed through spending a year in UPSC preparation.
Losar Festival is also celebrated in Bhutan and Arunachal Pradesh. @ForumIAS please verify.
