• A state cannot exist without people. It must have a population regardless of the number of this particular population. 
• It should have clearly defined borders, which determines the size of the state and the area it can govern. It should also have an established government, which should also be recognised by the other states globally. 
• A state should also be sovereign that means it should have the full right to govern itself without any outside interference.
