Statement 1 is correct. India has the fifth-largest proven coal reserves in the world, totalling around 106 billion tonnes in 2019 – just under 10% of the global total. Jharkhand, Odisha and Chhattisgarh in the east of the country are the states containing the largest coal deposits.

Statement 2 is correct. The sector has been opened up for commercial coal mining by private players in 2020 and first ever successful auction of commercial mining was concluded with allocation of 19 coal mines in 2020.

Statement 3 is correct. Peat has less than 40 per cent carbon content. It is in the first stage of transformation from wood to coal. It has low calorific value and burns like wood.
