Q. with reference to Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV), consider the following statements
1) While SSLV is intended to put satellites into low earth orbit, PSLV puts satellites into higher earth orbits.
2) The turnaround time of SSLV is much lower than the PSLV.
Which of the statements given above is/are correct?
Statement 1 is incorrect. SSLV-D1 mission would launch EOS-02, a 135 kg Satellite, into low earth orbit of about 350 km to the equator, at an inclination of about 37 degrees. The SSLV is completely different from the PSLV even though both are used for launching satellites into Low Earth Orbit.
Statement 2 is correct. While PSLV dominates SSLV in the above segments, the new rocket wins when it comes to turn-around time. Turn-around time means readying a rocket for the next launch and SSLV can be prepared and shifted to the launch pad in just over 72 hours, as against the two months required to prep the PSLV.
