India has about 27,000 wild Asian elephants (Elephas maximus); over 50% of the species’ estimated global population. Yet these natural nomads face an increasingly uncertain future in the country. The growing resource needs of India’s human population have led to the destruction and fragmentation of wild habitats, depleting the area available for elephants to roam and causing the loss of their traditional migratory paths.Elephant corridors are vital natural habitat linkages that enable elephants and other wildlife to move through the degraded habitats lying between larger protected forests freely, without being disturbed by humans.

’Gaj Yatra’, a “journey celebrating India’s national heritage animal”, aims at securing 100 elephant corridors across India.

Operation All-Out (OAO) was a joint offensive launched by Indian security forces in 2017 to flush out militants and terrorists in Kashmir until there was complete peace in the state. The operations included the Indian Army, CRPF, Jammu and Kashmir Police, BSF and IB. It was launched against numerous militant groups including Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, Hizbul Mujahideen and Al-Badr.The government is planning to launch the second phase of this operation in Kashmir soon.

India’s Nuclear Doctrine allows the use of Nuclear Weapons against Chemical or Biological Weapons. Thus,  India could use nuclear weapons first against nuclear powers which decide to use chemical or biological weapons against India. India could also use nuclear weapons against non nuclear weapons state if they use Chemical or Biological Weapons.

Jan Dhan Yojana was launched in 2014. It was a flagship scheme of the government to promote Financial inclusion.It has led to the opening of nearly 29.6 crore accounts in the last three years, 17.7 crore of which are in rural areas and 11.9 crore in urban areas. The number of RuPay cards has increased to 22.7 crore.Financial inclusion is the process of ensuring access to financial services, and timely and adequate credit where needed, by vulnerable groups, such as weaker sections and low-income groups, at an affordable cost. Financial inclusion would provide universal access to a wide range of financial services beyond banking, such as insurance and equity products.

The main reasons for the water crisis are:

1)Water sources have been depleted thus there isn’t enough water to pump at the stations.

2)The dry spell with less rainfall and very little snowfall.

3)Adverse weather/climatic conditions which it has said has led to the drying up of water sources.

4)A significant amount of water goes waste due to old, leaky pipes.

5)The civic body is often arbitrary in distributing water, giving VIP localities preferential treatment thus many hotels draw excess water, leaving common people facing shortages almost every year.

6)Illegal constructions have mushroomed across the city, and water is frequently pilfered for use at these sites.
