The Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu (Merger of Union Territories) Bill, 2019 was recently introduced in the Lok Sabha. in 1534, the Bahadur Shah signed the Treaty of Bassein with the Portuguese. By this, he ceded Diu to the Portuguese, as well as other territories of his empire such as Vasai and the islands that today form Mumbai. The Portuguese obtained Daman from the Shah in 1559.
