India has been re-elected to the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) Council for the 2024–25 period.
What is the International Maritime Organisation (IMO)?

India | – India joined the IMO in 1959. – IMO currently lists India as among the 10 states with the ‘largest interest in international seaborne trade’. |
Structure of the organization | 1) IMO is led by the Secretary General. 2) IMO Assembly: It consists of all Member States and is the highest governing body of the Organization. 3) IMO Council: It is elected by the Assembly for a term of two years. It acts as the executive organ of IMO and is responsible for supervising the work of the Organization. |
