The Delimitation commission or Boundary commission of India is a commission established by the Government of India under the provisions of the Delimitation Commission Act. The main task of the commission is redrawing the boundaries of the various assembly and Lok Sabha constituencies based on a recent census.

Statement 1 is correct: Under Article 82 of Indian Constitution, allocation of seats in the House of the People to the States and the division of each State into territorial constituencies shall be readjusted upon the completion of each census.

Statement 2 is incorrect: The Parliament is empowered to determine the authority for allocation of seats in the House of the People to the States and the division of each State into territorial constituencies. Accordingly, Parliament has enacted the Delimitation Commission Acts in 1952, 1962, 1972 and 2002 for this purpose. Delimitation commissions have been set up four times in the past — 1952, 1962, 1972 and 2002 — under Delimitation Commission Acts of 1952, 1962, 1972 and 2002.

Statement 3 is correct: Eighty-Fourth Amendment Act, 2001 extended the ban on readjustment of seats in the Lok Sabha and the state legislative assemblies for another 25 years (i.e., up to 2026) with the same objective of encouraging population limiting measures. In other words, the number of seats in the Lok Sabha and the assemblies are to remain same till 2026. It also provided for the readjustment and rationalisation of territorial constituencies in the states on the basis of the population figures of 1991 census.
