- Election Commission has seized cash,liquor and freebies of nearly Rs 540 crores within two weeks of the implementation of the model code of conduct.
- Tamil Nadu recorded the maximum seizure of these illegal inducements, suspected to have been routed and used to bribe voters followed by Uttar Pradesh,Andhra Pradesh and Punjab.
- The EC has deployed hundreds of general observers,expenditure observers and static and mobile surveillance teams in the country to keep a check on the flow of black money and other illegal gratification so that the level playing field of holding fair polls is not disturbed.
- Model code of Conduct(MCC) are the guidelines issued by the Election Commission of India for conduct of political parties and candidates during elections mainly with respect to (a)speeches (b)polling day (c)polling booths (d)election manifestos (e)processions and (f)general conduct.The MCC comes into force immediately on the announcement of the election schedule by the commission.The Code remains in force till the end of the electoral process.
- Model Code of Conduct(MCC) has no statutory backing.It means that anybody breaching the MCC can’t be proceeded against under any clause of the Code.The EC uses moral sanction or censure for its enforcement.
