News: Global Digital Compact was adopted in the recently held Summit of the Future.

1. Summit of the Future: The proposal for the summit originated in the Our Common Agenda Report, issued by the UN Secretary General.

2. It aims to forge a new global consensus on what our future should be like, and what can be done to secure it.

3. Global Digital Compact (GDC): It is a UN initiative aimed at fostering a shared understanding of how to govern and harness digital technologies for the common good.

4. It builds on the norms of international law, human rights, sustainable development goals to propose global cooperation in the governance of data and data technologies.

5. Sustainable Development Goals (SDG): They are a set of 17 goals that were adopted by all United Nations member states in 2015, with the idea of ending poverty, protecting the planet and ensuring that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030.

6. Some of these goals include: No Poverty (Goal 1), Quality Education (Goal 4), Affordable and Clean Energy (Goal 7) and Reduced Inequalities (Goal 10).
